Even Easier Root?

Says verification failed and doesn't go any further. I have to be doing something incorrect but for the darnedest reason i cant figure out what it is. Time for bed. I'll try again tomorrow. Thanks for the help tonight. Maybe I'll have better luck tomorrow.

I had something in the neighborhood of 4 billion (ok, maybe not quite that many, but it felt like it) 'verification failed' on multiple zip files the first time I tried to load a rom. I finally got it to work by moving the rom file to my SD card by plugging the SD card directly into my computer (it has a card reader port, and I have a micro-to-mini SD adapter) rather than mounting the phone to the computer. I KNOW that shouldn't make any difference, but it did. And yes, 'safely removed hardware' on the PC and set the phone back to 'charge only' before unplugged the phone, it just never worked that way.
Oddly, after that first time I've been able to put rom zip files on my phone via mounting the phone to the pc and they worked just fine - go figure...

So, if you're hardware will support it, try plugging the SD card directly into your computer and copy the file that way (turn off the phone before removing the SD card).

is there any advantage to using Clockworkmod vs amon_RA for recovery? I am rooted, so no biggie, but I wonder if either of the recovery tools is considered superior. amon_RA has worked great for me... I have flashed 5+ ROMs in as many days

Amon's recovery is the one mostly used and is recommended for eris users. Clockworkmod recovery can be unstable at times on the eris, because it is meant for other phones such as the nexus one, droid etc.

Well I tried the take out the SD card and put the engtools.zip (renamed to update.zip) on the SD card with it plugged into my computer(running windows 7). and still Verication Failed several times. Do I have to do something before just putting this file on my sd card and try to update?

no. i didnt. i wonder if its the sdcard. cuz my son and some others seem to be getting this

As long as it includes an ADB/SDK tutorial, I think it would be a good idea. It seems that a lot of people are getting stuck on the install and use of that more than anything else.

Amen to that. I have been trying for the past 2 days to root my eris. I get to the party where I need to update my drivers, the path i try to save it to says it doesn't exist. I think I forgot to download the drivers when i downloaded the sdk but I think I have figured out how to do it now. My poor browser has so many forum and Google bookmarks, I think my phone is starting to lag from searching all day lol. I then get some funky message when I try the web adb shell command. Some type of batch internal error (dont remember exact wording. I am so close in can see the root brass ring. I think after reading all day I have figured it out and will start from scratch tomorrow. Do I need to download eclipse too? I don't want to develope, I just want to root. I'm on windows xp

I don't quite understand what your problem is. Can you get adb to recognize your phone when you type "adb devices"?

Wow. You gotta love text prediction. Now that i have fixed all my errors, hopefully it makes more sense. Long story short no, my comp didn't Communicate with my phone when i went to cd: c\android-sdk-windows\tools it changed directories fine. Then when i typed adb shell to see if it was working, i got the error message. I think i just need to install the drivers for the usb. I thought i did in the sdk, but i can't find them.

i dont see how this is easy AT ALL!! after the thing is installed to my computer, what the hell do i do?

i keep seeing the same problems. make it easier on yourselves and rename your sdk folder to whatever your dogs name is or something. tools is easiest to me. just download my tools folder and run the batch files. i'm seriously not patronizing anyone at all. but i handed it over to everyone. delete the folder when your done if you want. i know there are steps, and i assumed you were all at a certain point if you get this far in a thread. i.m assuming stuff here though. so you all need to be a tad more clear on where your stumped. once you do it your all gonna go, OMG, what a piece of cake

drivers 1st. based on your os. sdk installation is moot if you download my tools folder. windows users check device mangler and see if your phone exists to your pc. have to be connected of course. and run a batch file, they run themselves and even tell you what to do.
