Thread is referred to as the "Oval Office" as an homage to the White House representing a conduit where information is constantly coming and going. Hope is this thread will provide the same. Focusing on Pics/Video/Information/Speculation/Wish list/Must haves/and Scooped info referencing EVO 3D. I personally want to say thanks for giving EVO 3D it's spot. Technology does moves on a dime!
Sprint folks had been running around with a new hardware revision of EVO 3D for awhile. I got to work on the prototype software, we simply sent updates. Sunday night, I was presented with what is now the HTC EVO 3D final rev. The one presented today and has received all the eye candy.
Kickstand: Noooo! I had the same reaction at the time this was presented to me. I talked in length on this. The motive for sans kickstand was cost/weight. Because EVO 3D does have a larger battery it did require a bit of expensive engineering to perform a work around. It is and will be a corporate culture to ensure EVO 3D remains at a attractive price point to “you” the consumer. I was shocked to hear when polled, being able to let your EVO kick back was not on the "Fans" list? (Who Knew!) So, with cost/weight consideration being added to the equation a kickstand/no kickstand option had to be put on the table. (I got the "win" for a kickstand). Logic was to give the consumer the choice. Launch time there will be the option for a kickstand. Prototype is an aluminum case. The drawings look sound and expected to address stability. I can’t go into details as other vendors will be designing there own versions. I felt a reasonable compromise had to be reached to make this work and be a non issue. (Job done!)
Next, why on earth would you put a charging port on the side of EVO 3D with its improved landscape capabilities? How am I going to do anything in landscape mode with a charging port on EVO 3D side? I was right there with you on that one, this seemed like a major step back! (I was peeved) Exclusive to the EVO 3D your getting a new data port called “MHL” (Media Hot Link) Once again the h/w guys made perfect sense of this. The one sticking point and I know you guys have a thread called “We need to follow this”. Not only does this new data port have a few industry first/tricks up its sleeve. (Thx h/w gurus btw) This port from a software side, gave us a gold mine to work with here. (More later) I know we all use original EVO in landscape mode. I have my EVO 4G mounted to the windshield for navigation. I could use the one in the car, but the EVO 4G is better. Hence, while in landscape mode, I also notice how the charging port is now on its side and the stress it puts on the charging port. I mentioned before EVO 3D is going to be more at home than ever in landscape mode with window panes and “buttons” rotating 360 degrees. If you still chose portrait mode in your car. You can all be glad that we now have a beefy all in one hdmi/data/charging beefy port to plug into. I posed the question? (Supposed Smart Hardware Guys/They are!) Let’s say I am watching the entire season 8 of 24. I have two episodes left and I need to plug in to watch the grand finale? The hardware guys got me again. “Because EVO 3D operates under android 2.3 gingerbread, simply rotate EVO so the charging port is on the top side and you can charge and watch movies. I said what if, my EVO is streaming HD content to my HDTV and I need to recharge? MHL will simultaneously stream and charge at the same time. (PWND)
Long live new EVO 3D.
I will continue to post with updates that is not covered at CTIA. Focusing more what we care about items such as these.
*DLNA
*Hulu
*Netflix
*HTCH Media Link
*NFC
*10mp Photo
*1080p 3D Movie (Avatar) Stream
*Push to Talk
*ECDMA (Enhanced, CDMA)
*HD Voice
*Integration/Migration Wimax/LTE.
*Laptop docking station via "HML Port"
*That’s just some of the stuff we have to knock out before launch.
Cheers,
