Help EVO 3d Sim Card/Travel question

Greetings!

I going taking a trip to South America and would like to use my EVO 3d
for google maps compass etc..

People have told me they have taken phone abroad and had the sim card swapped so they can use the phone. My provider is Sprint.


How do I go about getting my phone set up to use abroad?

Sprint runs on a CDMA network and their phones do not have Sim Cards
