Root Evo 4G 2.3.3 can't root

Before I completely give up on rooting my Evo 4g, I want to double check with you guys to ensure I didn't miss something glaring obvious.

I have followed all the instructions to the letter on how to install the proper drivers on my PC, remove various programs, setting my EVO into the proper mode and then running Unrevoked3 to gain root access. At this time I still get the "firmware is too new error". Based on my readings, I am assuming that the new Gingerbread update has knocked me out of the possibilities of gaining root access?

I appreciate your assistance with this and hope to be able to contribute to the boards very soon.

My Droid:

Android Version- 2.3.3
BaseBand- 2.15.00.05.02
Kernel- 2.6.35.10
Build- 4.22.651.2
Software- 4.22.651.2
PRI- 2.15_003
PRL- 60679
 
I have not seen recently if they have found an exploit to root 2.3.3 yet as I have been rooted for a while, but if not now they will have one soon. You could search it on XDA. Either way unrevoked will have to be updated before you can root 2.3.3

There has not been an exploit found yet for the new hboot version that you have with the recent update. You will have to wait for them to find it before you can root. They will find one just no telling how long it might take. Keep checking back. It will be posted when it becomes available

I'm in the same boat. I ruined my last one, scammed Sprint into giving me a new one and it has 2.3.3 on it! So here I sit with this Sense-less ROM and horrible horrible horrible battery life and no Netflix! So we wait :(
 
Hello all. I just registered I got my first android as the EVO 4g two weeks ago. I totally didn't realize 2.3.3 ota was not rootable as of yet. Is it possible to return to the original build?

unfortnately, with the new gingerbread ota comes a new hboot (2.16) and unfortunately there is no way to change the hboot that is not rooted yet. so you will have to wait.

Sorry, I'm pretty sure that is a negative. I don't think you can (for lack of better word) 'rollback' your phone software.
 
SO Sadly I havent found anything.ive ROOTed a few phones but wanted to ROOT my newest that had 2.3.3 installed.can you say CRAP!the update was a complete overhaul on the system.bootloader ,firmware,and software ver updates.i've tryed downgrading my software,didnt work due to bootloader ver.tryed downgrading bootloader ,not compatible with 2.3.3 . so no matter what i do, CONFLICT!.since google withdrew ClockMod language.it hard to "roll back" without any errors.so we all must wait till rEVOked updates to a gingerbread ROOT. Ive have seen that some people with gingerbread have ROOTed but i cant say they have for evo sprint.Gingerbreak has helped a few GB systems but i've tryed for evo and got a long wait on install and no results.if anyone figures gingerbreak out let me know.i'll keep trying to figure a loop around the "Roll Back"

yeah the gingerbreak exploit has been closed with the latest 4.22 and 4.24 ota. so you will have to wait, unfortunately.
 
Yeah I keep hoping for a breakthrough. My replacement should be in tomorrow. It sounds like they're making progress on the evo 3d and abragen (sp?) Posted on twitter that there's a rumor of an update coming from HTC to the 3d that will include an open bootloader, so if that happens, maybe the OG evo will follow suit.
 
Okay, it's October 20, 2011. Is there a way to root the Evo 4g 2.3.3? I think it is ridiculous that we have to jump threw hoops to customize a cell phone that we paid 100's of dollars for.
 
Hi everyone I used unrevoked to root my phone it work. Now I have a new refurbished phone and it has been updated to the new firmware 4.54 unrevoked says due to Yugoslavia new build number they can't root. How do I downgrad?e my build number or root with a compatible operation. Need help on this any body have any suggests

what is your refurbished phone's hboot? unrevoked only works with phones that have been updated to froyo. we need to know what your hboot is. with each major update the hboot changes and thus the method has changed on how to get rooted. here is the breakdown:

1. if you have hboot 2.10 then use this guide:

so to verify power off (disable fastboot, settings>apps>uncheck fastboot) then press and hold power+vol down. post what you see on the screen.

Man for not even having a working Evo (or hell, even if you did have a working Evo) I continue to be amazed by your helpfulness in these forums.

Don't know if any of this helps but I sure could use your expertise in resolving my rooting nightmare. I simply want my Evo to allow for free Hotspot, nothing more.

Yes and to no avail. It took me only an hour to do my first Evo, but I have spent hours on this and am coming up with total failure. I'm going to try again right now. From what I can see I need to change my new phone to 2.10.0001, but not sure how to go about it? I generated my Beta key but it didn't work. Got my serial from the back of the phone and am wondering if because this phone was re manufactured in the Phillipines if that serial could be erroneous? I'm groping to say the least!

Thank you I'll be keeping my eye on this thread for anything I may have missed.
