Root Evo 4g Root Help!

I have H-Boot 2.18 with android version 2.3.5, i need help rooting iv tried only one way on some HTC site and well it didn't work.. my android sdk wouldn't install the things it needed, any way is there a way i can root without losing all my contacts,apps,games,settings and things like that basically with out re- setting the phone itself..if not its ok i just need serious help.

I've moved you to the rooting section where you will get much better help. Unfortunately, every root method for 2.3.5 involves completely wiping the phone. In the future, if you plan on rooting DO NOT accept any OTA. It just makes rooting harder and harder.

Yes use the guide that rxpert linked. I made it easy so and pulled the files you need.there is no need to download sdk. Just follow the guide and you should be ok.
