Root EVO 4G Screen issues

Hi, this is my first post.
I just bought this HTC EVO 4G and the problem is when I power up, the splash screen shows. But then the backlight stays lit and the screen goes blank. The start up music still plays though. I can get into hboot and this is what I have
-Revolutionary-
SUPERSONIC EVT3 SHIP S-OFF
HBOOT - 6.16.1002
MICROP - 041f
TOUCH PANEL-ATMEL224_16ab
RADIO - 2.15.00.11.19

I've tried clearing storage to no avail. I've also tried going into recovery but it just boots up again.
I've tried to flash a new recovery but I always get the "no image or wrong image" error.
Any help would be much appreciated. Thank you.

Are you SURE you have it properly named (PCIMG36.zip) and on the uppermost level of the SD card?

Hopefully you didnt buy an EVO with the boot loop of death, because at this time theres no way out of it.

Hi, thanks for the quick response!
I actually have another Evo with the boot loop, but I've given up on that :D
Ok now I feel lame, I've been naming it PC36IMG :D I'll fix that, reflash, and see how that goes, thanks!

Just make sure you don't have two .zips (PC36IMG.zip.zip)

Depending on your version of windows (if thats what your using) it may hide file extensions, in that case you would only have to name it PC36IMG

Welcome to the forums!!! :D

When you try recovery, you sat it boots again. Do you mean it shows the splash screen: white htc evo4g screen? or does it try to boot into the rom?

Try what Rxpert suggested first then we'll go from there. :)

Ok, I was finally able to flash Aman Ra 2.3 and it said update successful, but when I press recovery, it goes straight to the splash screen. It's not a boot loop because it does boot up, the start up music sounds and the backlight is illuminated but the screen remains blank.

I get the splash screen.
It functioned once, but as soon as the screen timed out, that was it, blank screen.
Also, from what I could see of it, it was still on stock rom

Can you get a recovery to install on there now?

Once we have that we have a LOT more options for troubleshooting

I've flashed a few recoveries and all of them claim to update successfully, but pressing recovery just causes the phone to boot up. I've even tried to use revolutionary, it asked me if i wanted to flash cwm, it also gave me SUCCESS, but still nothing.

I'm thinking I might have to unroot and reroot.

Just learned this from granite in another thread..... Since you have the stock recovery give it a shot. Wiping dalvic cache and cache would be the first thing i'd suggest if you have a custom one

Pull the battery, then put it back in. Hold the volume down button, then press and hold the power button simultaneously until a white screen with Andy riding a sketeboard appears. This is your bootloader, or hboot. Use the volume button to highlight recovery, then press power to select. If you get a black screen with an exclmation point in a red triangle, this is the stock recovery. Hold both the vulume down and volume up buttons, the press and hold the power button. You should get a few options, use the volume keys to highlight wipe the cache partition, the wipe the dalvik cache. Reboot the phone and see if it works.

Ok so I've unrooted the phone and now I'm trying to reroot.
Still not sure what's wrong with the screen, but powering on is basically a hit or miss. either the Sprint 4G screen shows or it doesn't. This is really strange.

I just unrooted and rerooted through ocnbrze's guide and it seems to have had no effect. The screen still works only sometimes, and the recovery options still reboots the phone.

If it still happened after you ran the RUU I didn't think unrooting and re-rooting was going to help.

At this point I'm not sure what else to suggest. Hopefully OCN, capt throwback or others can chime in here and get you fixed up.

I think i figured out what was wrong. I don't think there was ever a problem with recovery, I just thought there was. Because when pressing recovery it goes to the splash screen and then into recovery. I'm just guessing that the screen didn't show (original problem). I realized this when i pressed recovery and it went to the splash screen but then went blank, but this time the start up music didnt play. So I figured it is in recovery, but the screen won't show. So I booted into recovery a few more times, and sure enough on this last try, it showed recovery!

So now I'm back to the original problem. Every time I boot up, it shows the "HTC EVO 4G" splash screen, and sometimes it will show everything else, but other times the back light is illuminated and the rest of the screen is blank, but it does boot up.

Well I found the answer! If anyone else has this problem, it's hardware related. I just needed to replace the LCD screen. Thanks for everyone's help!:D

Glad you got it! Makes sense, the RUU basically resets all the software so it almost had to be hardware related.
