Root evo 4g stock & rooted gps problems

spent21

Newbie
I have had this reman. evo 4g for about a month now, and I have not been able to get a sat. lock stock or rooted.
I rooted the phone in order to flash some of the fixes that are out there but to no avail.
Below is what I have tried:
[FIX][AOSP][MIUI] All GPS fixes! - xda-developers

Drivers:
  • **NEW** - Qualcomm Vision GPS Driver v1.1 (recommended) -
  • Qualcomm Vision GPS Driver v1.0
  • EVO Gingerbread GPS Driver
Workarounds / Other fixes
  • GPSCLRX Sense Workaround
  • AGPS Data (uses GPS Status Toolbox)
I have tried Cyanogen 7.1 and currenlty MikG v3.11 roms with a variety of the gps flashes with no success.

When I use the GPS status toolbox, I never identify any sats and never get a lock:

I have tried the A-gps reset and download that doesn't change anything.

I have mounted the system partion in order to delete some files as outlined here:
Managing GPS failures - xda-developers
"

1. Mount the /system partition read-write. This can be done from adb, from the Root Explorer application, or from a terminal emulator

2. Edit /system/etc/gps.conf, and remove the lines that begin with "SUPL". For CM7, as an example, this is lines 5 and 6, "SUPL_HOST=supl.google.com" and "SUPL_PORT 7276"

3. Reboot."

But I have no SUPL files:

When I log onto google maps, it will find me accurately and almost immediately at home and at work, but I think that it is using known wifi and tower locations in order to do so:

When I log into the navigation and click on maps, it only says searching for gps:

WOW. thanx for the thorough op on what your issue is. it looks like you have exhausted all of my ideas on gps issues. have you tried calling sprint? it might be a hardware issue.

I am at my wit's end. xda forums appear to rip a new one for anyone asking about gps issues since the end-all-be-all of fixes was provided sometime in 2011. I have tried most of what is outlined in the proposed fixes to no avail and think that maybe something else is wrong.

I hope that someone here can shed some light on my problem. I'm fairly new at this but think that if I've been able to come this far, that I should be able to follow some layman directions.

I am a firm believer in 'you get out what you put in'

I am asking for a solution to a problem that can only be relayed across a message board, so the more information i post about my problem, more realistic and vaible solutions are returned (hopefully).

I have not contacted sprint though. I purchased the phone as a refurb off ebay, so I figured Sprint would not be too forthcoming with any solutions.

If I were to take it to the local Sprint store, would it be wise to unroot it first? I guess I'm equating the store to a car dealership (which I despise)

ahhh i see. but all of the tricks you have tried were the ones that i know of. i do not know of any other fixes out there. it could be a hardware issue and if that is the case then i'm not sure what you can do.

sorry i did not hit re-fresh. most sprint stores do not care if you are rooted. keep it on mikg as it is pretty stock as it is.
