Evo 4g V, worth it?

seekario

Newbie
Right now I have the motorola triumph but I kinf of want the evo 4g V , I read a few reviews about it .
Would u guys give me any informations or advices of any type .
Thanks!!
PD: I heard there's a rom for the EVO 4G V So it gets beats audio? Is that true?

Some people say its a huge improvement over the triumph, few have had signal fluctuation issues, but don't let that stop you from getting one. I want it as well, so I am not sure how it is myself, but I do know that there are two ROMs with beats audio, mobsters and meanROM. One has it implemented but it doesn't work properly, zr3d

Beats Audio is just how Dr Dre thinks how music should sound. It's no big deal (to me) really. I like to have it just to say I have it. I prefer DSP Manager so I can bump that bass up.

The Beats Audio is NOT available on the stock ROM, but if you flash custom firmware, it's available on many ROMs. Your other option is to flash it to the stock ROM i believe. There should be a flashable zip floating around this forum somewhere or other...

Well thank u guys!
I think once I get my evo I'll be in the forums more often lol.
I hope u guys don't mind me asking questions in the future :D

Sorry to jack the thread a little bit but I can't post a new thread. This forum has been super informative so far.

Right now I have a Triumph. I'm looking at getting the HTC Evo V 4g but I'm not sure if it's the right decision. The Triumph is a p.o.s. Bad battery life, terrible gps, poor reception (although that might be more VM than the phone). Just not pleased. My questions, then, are:

Does the V 4g have a solid gps (does it lock quickly)? I drive a lot so this is somewhat important.

Does it get better reception? Again, it might just be VM in which case would it make sense to switch to Verizon? I know their rates are absurdly expensive and I would prefer not to switch. I have no experience with a contract service.

I want a phone that will have enough juice to last the whole day even if I'm spending 4 hours in the car with the gps on. I hate to suggest this route too but would the iPhone 4s make sense? Kind of anti-apple but I want to stay with VM if possible and if that is the best phone they have... well then that's what I'll go with. The triumph has just been such an awful experience.

Thanks!

If nav is very important, I don't think you want the iPhone because it doesn't have Google navigation. GPS on the evo is solid, haven't had a problem.

gps lock has always been very fast in my experience. reception on this phone is okay, but as of right now with the current radio, it's got a bug in really low signal areas. It should be addressed within a month or so though. As far as battery life is concerned, you'll be fine, just get either an extended battery or a secondary battery if you need that much juice. I should say that reception is overall much better than the triumph, since my girlfriend has one and I know what you're talking about here. Hope this helps.

Before I type too much, let me give you my recent phone background.

TMobile:
HTC Mytouch 4G
HTC Sensation 4G (Closest thing I've had to this phone)
Samsung Galaxy S II 4G

Each of those phones was rock solid stable . Sure, I did all kinds of funky stuff with custom ROMs that threw a monkey wrench into stability, but they all ran like champs!

MetroPCS:
LG Esteem 4G LTE
Samsung Indulge 4G LTE

Both INCREDIBLY unstable. Random reboots, lockups, lag.

Virgin Mobile USA:
Motorola Triumph

What a laugh this phone was. Screen was unresponsive even after removing the factory applied secondary screen protector shield, Ringtones wouldn't repeat , lockups, reboots, etc.

Now, that having been said, my Evo V is running 100% rock solid. Battery life is great, no hiccups, burps, farts, or anything else that would annoy me. Other than the 3D camera and the fact that its got a 5MP shooter instead of and 8MP, this phone is exactly like using my old HTC Sensation, which simply put was an awesome phone!

The built-in power management is great - I started gauging my battery life at 80% and having been on the same charge for 1 day, 5h, 21m, 58s and still have 30% left.

Do yourself a favor - buy one - enjoy it - love it :-)

I have no issue with the phone other than the fact that I live in a very low signal area where I get the Radio Interface Resource Shortage bug all the time

As others have stated, the Evo is far better than the Triumph. As for spending 4 hours in the car, it should work but much of it depends on the screen -- with such a large screen it does use a lot of power. And the GPS does lock on quickly.

If you are going to be spending a lot of time in the car, I'd recommend the car kit. You can get the HTC brand car kit, specifically made for this phone (well, the Evo 3D, but this is the same phone under a different name) on Ebay for only $11.65.

I've had Optimus V, Triumph, and now Evo. GPS works great and the signal strength is comparable to Opt V so much better than the pos Triumph. Battery life seems little less than Opt V, but still far superior to Triumph. My Triumph used to just drink battery juice doing nothing in my pocket. However, GPS will drain your battery especially with the screen on. I assume you will use it with a car charger so probably not an issue.
