EVO 4g vs. Incredible

I was in a similar position as you and decided on the Incredible, why?

Droid Incredible:

+ smaller than the evo = pocketable

+ lighter than the evo, felt an HD2 before? It feels like a paperweight IMO

+ one handed typing, forget about it on the EVO

+ better battery life, reports from early reporters show the Evo has horrible battery life

+ Verizon coverage >>> Sprint

+ Monthly plans are cheaper for the Incredible

+ Wifi hotspot? Just wait until root, or if root scares you....Froyo will have it. Also Wifi hotspot costs $30/month on Evo/Sprint

+ 8GB internal memory on the Incredible IN addition to whatever SD card you have, Evo? Minimal.

Other than a few things I would never use, they're pretty much similar spec wise. HDMI output on a PHONE seems pretty useless to me other than for "Look at me!" moments. 720p video quality doesn't look amazing (samples on "other forums"), overrated. Front facing camera is useless if you a) Don't use skype and b) don't have an available 4G connection from Sprint's spotty service and expensive plans.

I think it boils down to one thing, if you want a phone that provides amazing capabilities WHILE also being a great phone with service, go with the Incredible. If you want a pseudo-tablet in your pocket, can accept mediocre coverage, and don't mind paying extra for 4G regardless of if it's available to you or not (available in 27 states) then go with the Evo.

My $0.02 :)

Not once have you seen this phone for yourself in person. I hate when you guys give advice on second hand information. No one ever said on anything I read that the battery life was horrible because no one has had the Evo in their hand for a extended period of time.

2. Just because you get bad reception in your area does not mean that everyone gets bad reception.

3.Sprint has the cheapest plans.

4. Instead of being a Verzion fanboy give the guy a unbiased opinion.

I have played with the Incredible and it is a amazing phone. I have not used the Evo yet so I can't give you a opinion just yet.

Incredible, without a doubt. Unless of course you want a tablet that gets bad reception, if that's the case the Evo is the one you want.

vzw fanbois make me laugh. Thank god iPhone isn't going to vzw. Could you imagine a vzw + apple fanboi hybrid? Dear god...

And to stay relevant... eVo 4G, here I come.

I'm not basing my opinion on hearsay. Go look at Androidcentral.com. There are two people with Evo 4Gs that have 10+pg long threads. I'm sorry not everyone posts here. The older thread of the two originally had more video (that was removed since I'm guessing the worker did not want his identity out or risk getting in trouble).

Got the EVO - Android Central Forums

I have an EVO ... - Android Central Forums

I'm basing my battery reports on both of their threads and pure common sense. Explain to me how you think a phone with a larger screen, same 1ghz processor as the incredible, and a TFT display (less energy efficient than AMOLED) is going to get amazing battery life with only a 200mAh battery increase from the Incredible. Now throw in running all of that, two video camera, and streaming 4G. How long do you really think you'll be video chatting for?

I might've came off as biased, but I'm not. In past odd years I've been with 3 of the 4 major US carriers (AT&T, T-Mobile, and now Verizon). I actually recently ported my number to Verizon from AT&T. Fanboy? LOL.

I was telling the OP MY PERSONAL OPINION, yes Verizon is cheaper for me. We get a corporate discount of 25%, this may not apply to everyone. Are we not entitled to our opinions on a public forum based on our personal facts?

Yes, you may consider me biased because I already chose the Incredible. But nothing's stopping me from returning it and pre-ordering an Evo except myself. The Evo fanboys can continue to rip my apart, but nothing I said was based on frivolous hearsay. BTW, all of my colleagues who have Sprint admit their service is spotty (your experience may be different) but only remain with Sprint because they all have exceptionally cheap SERO plans from the past. If Sprint had such amazing coverage to begin with they wouldn't be struggling getting new subscribers or using Verizon's towers for roaming capabilities.

You sir, are wrong.

Do some more research before you come on here and make an ass of yourself.

I myself just ordered the Incredible. I would have gotten the EVO but on my school's campus only Verizon gets good service.

I would say that overall the EVO is a better phone: larger screen, 4g (if your area has it, mine didn't as I said earlier), kickstand, HDMI out, and a front facing camera (which right now doesn't have much use IMO, but it could in the future).

However, the internals of each phone truly are very similar. You are not going to get faster speeds on either phone, both the Incredible and the EVO should be about the same.

Overall if you have good service with both Sprint and Verizon in your area I would go with the EVO. But if your like me and only Verizon works well, the Incredible is still an great choice.

The evo will have a faster/better broswing/streaming/data experience in 4g covered area. Chicago is nicely blanketed with 4g, and 3g, so its perfect for me.

Tapatalk. Samsung Moment. Yep.

I did say that the EVO will have faster webbowsing, etc if you are in a 4G area. However those are still limited as they roll it out. I am not in one of those areas, in fact Sprint coverage is nonexistent where I am.

LOL, I haven't read a post on this forum where you aren't being a Sprint fanboy.

See?? You never mentioned anything about Verizon being "cheaper for you" or that you get a discount. How were we or the OP supposed to know this? Instead of mentioning these important details, you said, "+ Monthly plans are cheaper for the Incredible" and "Sprint's spotty service and expensive plans". This obviously implies to the OP that Verizon is cheaper than Sprint. You said nothing of a discount at first.

The OP is looking for help and the best way to help him is to supply facts, not opinion. (Not saying you can't have an opinion). You are indeed entitled to your own opinion but we must be diligent to keep our facts straight :).

Also, since you mention your corporate discount, I guess I can mention mine. I have a 27% corporate discount with Sprint. (It used to be 16% when I was with Nextel)

I have a 24% discount. you got me beat by 3% you dog!

I dont know which phone YOU should go with but If I had to chose out of the two? I personally would choose the Incredible without a second thought. Then again, im not particularly interested in either but..

Things that are important to me are:
-Battery life (regardless how poor the DI battery is, common sense says itll beat the Evo when its using 4G)
-Internal phone storage (8GB makes Evos storage look puny)

I dont really know when id ever make a video call. If I really wanted to, Id use my laptop. What would have really impressed me is if they upgraded to a 1.5Ghz processor or launched with 2.2 froyo.

I dont have 4G in my area (Florida) and with the little coverage 4G has right now, its really more of a gimmick imo. They shouldnt be making you pay $10 extra until there is sufficient coverage to back the price up.

Also, and this is just me, I dont like the way phones keep getting bigger. I dont want to end up carrying a tablet in my pocket. 4.3" is HUGE. My hand is just over 6 inches long at the middle finger and about 4 inches wide and my pants pockets are tight. That would NOT be comfortable for me. 3.5-3.7" is a perfect match for me.

That said, the Evo sure looks like a fun toy to play with. Im not interested though. HTC can do better than that. Ill wait for the next 4G phone, preferably when 4G matters.

@yellowfrizbee, you didn't mention the one thing that would instantly sway me to go for the evo over the incredible/desire if i was on the market for them: hdmi out

Yeah hdmi out is nice.

I.e. you shoot home movies, load them on to your evo, and can share in hd quality anywhere. Sweet freakin stuff.

Not if your video is 16-20fps and have heavy "jello" effect. "Jello" panning on a big screen is worst than a bad roller-coaster ride.

Consensus is the evo records at 20fps

One Guy . One guy b claims to get 24fps (contrary to what everyone says) and claim it is good because film is 24fps. Well, film, they have motion compensation and other tricks to make it look smooth. For video, on a phone, it looks like crap.

engadget lists it as 720p24 - weirdly enough htc's own site doesn't seem to mention it at all

in any case, i'd rather use the hdmi out for proper videos (movies, tv shows...), transferred from a comp, not some crummy (regardless of the device, they are) phone camera -shot footage
of course you could also use it to play games or do something productive (get a bluetooth keyboard to boot and you're pretty much using a docked netbook that fits in your pocket)

Read my post again. I didn't say recording it with an evo.

Anyone wo expects hd quality camcorder on a phone, once again, is silly. First is that nasty little memory constraint.
