Help Evo 4G was fully submerged in water

coreyos

Lurker
So in all of my intelligence yesterday, I managed to drop my Sprint Evo 4G in the toilet, DOH! I immediately yanked it out and took it apart to dry it out. I did the whole bag of rice trick in addition to drying the interior as much as possible. When I power the phone on, it goes through the boot screen and seems like it will boot like normal but after sitting on the 4G screen for a minute or so, it goes into infinite reboot. I searched the issue on google and most of the posts are talking about "rooting, flashing" etc. I am a casual user and everything is stock on my phone, so I don't know what the exact steps are that I need to take. I did find out how to access the boot menu or whatever it is with the options like "recovery mode, fastboot, clear storage, etc". However, I would like to know what to do from here, whether to reinstall the OS or what? Thanks for your understanding.

PS: I know the top answer is "go to Sprint" but I called them today and they will not even consider attempting a courtesy repair on water damaged phones. I don't have anything to lose by trying to repair it myself with some help from you guys. The warranty is voided and the water damage indicators are fully lit lol. I would like to avoid the $100 deductible if possible.

I would give another day atleast. Give it time to completely dry out. If you are interested in rooting check out the link rooting for dummies in my sig. Do yourself a favor and read it a few times before attempting. If you have any questions ask in the all things root section

I'll give it another go with the rice thing and see if that works. As for rooting, I'm alright with the stock phone. I just do basic text, email, phone, internet stuff. Nothing too heavy, just looking to get the phone back to normal if possible.

If somehow the only thing wiped was the OS, then the way you would go about re-install it is downloading the latest RUU (4.54.651.1) and running it while in bootloader, or in your words, the boot menu or whatever.

If it doesn't work and you need a replacement Evo (and decide not to go the insurance route), shoot me a PM. I have one for sale. :)

FIXED IT! I backed all my stuff up and did a factory reset and it's back to normal now. Thanks for the advice everybody! :D
