EVO availability for sprint employees and advantage club

Again, heed my warning about the sprint ID phons. Dont do it. They operate different than regular android phones, so rooting it may not work. unless you can find a rooting site that has already accomplished this. These phones were built for those who travel to other countries or foreigners who speak multiple languages..

We have been waiting since the Evo was released in June. They promised the Epic would come to us the day of its release. Sprint has been full of Sh*t and completely disregarded is SWAC members ever since these phones came out. If a new date doesn't come out very soon, sprint should not be mad when I buy a Droid 2 and try to use it on their service because if they won't provide a good high - end android phone to us , I should be allowed to use another phone on their service, after they have been toying with us for 4+ months

If you are going to pay full price for a Droid 2 to use on Sprints service, why don"t you just buy an EVO outright on craigslist, ebay, PPCGeeks or XDA?

Because Sprint has had cases of Evos and Epics being activated on SWAC accounts and their have been investigations on the accounts. I don't want to get my father , who is a sprint employee , fired. But at the same time I hate WebOS, and I am ready to switch to android. But I can't live without a QWERTY keyboard. Thats why I have been waiting for the Epic. But if Sprint will keep pushing off the date without any news , I don't see why they will have a problem with me getting the Non 4G droid, and using it on their service.

I know plenty of employees and SWAC members who have EVOs, they bought them on EBAY, craigslist, Sprint is not doing any kind of investigations, only if the device is reported stolen from someone else account. I assure they are very strict on fraud activity, but they do not mind at all if you activate an EVO/Epic on your account.

WTF.... who told you this? I've NEVER heard of this and Sprint employee services have said its fine from day 1 to buy one outright and use it on a swac account so WHY would they investigate it? The Swac account im on 3 of us have evo's and we've all had them since June 4th. It would be different if they arent allowing them on the account until they release them for employees but all you have to do is buy it and call the swac line and they will activate it for you and tell you about the $10 fee before they add it.

I'm sorry but whoever told you that sold you a lie lol... a big one.

There has been talk about Sprint "investigating" EVOs on Employee/SWAC accounts. I do know there were unofficial suggestions not to get the outright.

Personally, I don't think they'll do anything. I do not see the ethical dilemma for an employee to buy a phone OUTRIGHT. Seems like a win/win to me.

LOL at the folks who are saying the latest update is wrong. I have consistently been able to get info here faster than my sponsor.

LOL at poster who wants to stick it to Sprint by getting a Droid 2 to use on Sprint. Okay...

I will 100% guarentee you that Sprint will not knowingly let you activate a phone from another carrier on their service.

Yes Sprint is doing an investigation on all employees that have an Evo or Epic activated on any SWAC or EDRP account, I am one of many that have been questioned about the origin of my Evo on my EDRP account and two of my SWAC account.

My sponsor told me the same. We had both decided to buy it outright, and he had inquired to make sure it was okay. He was initially told yes, and then received information from a mid-level exec advising not to.

Again, personally, if the EVO is obtained legitimately, and the employee/SWAC person is paying all 4G fees etc, I don't see what the beef is.

I doubt the investigation will come to anything.

we can only hope!

All sponsors just have to check the employee i-connect for the update. It was released today, that they will give us the november release date within 2 weeks from now.

I can confirm this as well. I don't work for sprint but my buddy does and he forwarded me the email. I guess we gotta hold on for 2 more weeks

lol what exactly are the investigating? Hell I bought mine FROM the Sprint store... I called SWAC before I bought the phone SEVERAL times to ask them could I do it and they said yes... even sent me the OK in an email. If it was such a big problem they wouldnt have been setup to add the ESN's for the phones and to add the $10 fee to swac accounts to begin with. Nothing is going to come of it... they could care less as long as you bought the phone from a LEGIT situation and outright. I think the only thing they MAY be investigating is whether people bought the phone with a new contract and then switched it to a SWAC account. Now THAT I could see, but just buying it outright I doubt if theyll do anything at all.

They are not investigating you if you are on a swac program, they are making sure how you obtained a phone probably. However, they are investigating Sprint Employees, my sponsor is a regional manager and she had to fire two managers for buying them on eBay and couldn't get around that. So, its not a good thing for Sprint employees, they had them for almost 2 billing cycles before she had to terminate so if your friends have them at Sprint its just probably a waiting game for the hatchet to come down.

i have to ask... why should they care?????
ebay, craigslist, or full price at a retailer....

if we are paying for the service as required..
if it was not stolen... why should they care???
what are they loosing???? how is it hurting Sprints image or reputation or pocket book??

lol this is pure stupidity though. If they didnt want SWAC people to have them WHY would they train and give the SWAC account services instruction on how to activate them? lol.. and on top of that they sent us an email saying that since we have EVO's on our account that there will be another $10 addition to our account like 2 months ago. lol... SMH only Sprint. We even told the dumb reps in the store that we were on SWAC accounts and they said no problem if you purchase outright.

awesome, so we will probably wait around until thanksgiving before they tell us that possibly by christmas we will be able to purchase the phone finally. Way to go Sprint!

Here's my question: what is the problem? Is there a violation of company rules? Are Sprint employees expressly forbidden from acquiring phones from non-approved sources? It could make some sense, I guess...

Idiots plain and simple. They are the ONLY company that I know of that make their employees wait this long to get new phones. One would think that they would want the employees to have the phones when they come out so they can actually advertise by word of mouth... but not Sprint. 4 months later and they're actually SURPRISED that people are taking different avenues to get phones that they STILL wont allow employees to BUY? Hell its almost the end of the year they'll probably be announcing something new around Christmas and then employees will be stuck with the Evo until NEXT Christmas.

No sir not me... I still have my upgrade too.

If only we could all be as wise as brownhornet, we'd all have our EVOs in hand and still have our collective upgrade eligibility in tact, too.

I agree with the prevailing sentiment: it's ridiculous for Sprint to go on a witch hunt for the relative handful of employees who purchased EVOs through alternate channels prior to the employee-specific EVO release date. The unfortunately reality is that Sprint wants to ensure that customers who don't receive discounts on their monthly service get their hands on the EVO (and other high-demand smartphones) first. Given the shortages of EVOs and Epics, can you imagine how little much money Sprint would have earned to date if employees and SWAC members bought their EVOs on the device's June 4 release date?

A word of advice to Sprint: If you don't want your employees to own a new device prior to the never-to-be-determined employee-specific release date, then you should distribute a formal e-mail to said employees explaining your policy and the reasons for it, plus the consequences for non-compliance. It also wouldn't hurt to instruct Employee Care and the handful of retail stores that serve the employees not to allow ESN swaps on those new devices, either. In this way, you can focus on better competing against AT&T and VW instead of punishing the people who make your cogs turn.

Quick question...if the reason for the Evo delayed availability to SWAC was because of shortage of phones, what is the reason for the Epic delay? To my knowledge there were/are no shortage of them. I'm guessing they didn't want everyone waiting for the Evo jumping on the Epic and then losing the Evo sales. Maybe?

Yeah but Sprint didn't exactly anticipate the shortages that it encountered with regards to the EVO either. I have been told that the company "had learned its lesson" after wasting its agreement with Palm to be the first to sell the Pre. Shortages and shabby build quality combined to frustrate customers, who either grew tired of waiting to purchase the device (sound familiar?) or grew frustrated with waiting for a replacement on something they'd already paid for. Either way, Sprint missed an opportunity: its exclusive deal ended about the time Palm fixed the quality issues, VW soon launched its own webOS devices, and Sprint lost its head-start on a major competitor. When you're playing third string to the starting QB, you can't afford to squander any chances you have.

If I wasn't getting 50% off my after rebate price to upgrade to the EVO 4G I would be super angry  right now. As it stands I am only very dissapointed :( ...
