Help EVO Camera not working

Took a couple photos yesterday, then went to view them and my camera screen went black. Tried shutting the phone down and restarting, still cannot access any camera features and camera screen remains black. Only button that functions on the camera screen is the button to return to the home screen.

Note: This was the first time I took photos since downloading the latest Android update a few days ago, am wondering if that is the issue. Anyone else have this happen right after downloading the update?

Found a solution on another thread. I powered the phone off, removed the battery, waited a couple minutes, restarted. Camera functions fine now. Cheers.

I did that same thing and it worked fine for a few days then it started doing the black screen again. Any help?

I just recently had this same problem. After deciding it was a hardware issue (front camera was normal and other camera apps showed discolored images), I tried the only thing I could think of -- physical force, applying pressure to the lens. I don't know why but it worked. After about three days of purpleness and many calls to sprint and best buy techs, my camera works fine. I literally just pushed the lens as hard as I could.

I just registered on this site to thank this poster. I used physical force and my camera is working again. Was about to do a factory reset after unsuccessfully trying other things. Thank you, thank you!!

Bporter627, thank you so much for that tip! I have been dealing with the discolored camera on my HTC EVO 4G off and on since last spring. I was afraid that I would have to send my phone in for repairs yet again, costing $50 and a week w/o my phone. Or worse, I was considering purchasing a new phone. Your tip saved my day! I pushed hard on the camera lens, and voila!, the colors are normal!
I use my camera mostly as a scanner -- receipts, pictures of textbooks, articles, etc. I don't care as much about the resolution of the image as I do the ability to read the text.
Thanks again!

I dropped my phone last night (first time in a year and eight months) and experienced the pink/purple camera... was FREAKING out, since I ordered the EVO 4G LTE but am relying on being able to use my 4G for tethering until LTE is available. Pressing on the camera resolved the issue. THANK YOU Bporter627!

Believe it or not, the pressing on the camera lens does actually work. The camera on my EVO 4G hasn't worked in months. I've let it go for a while and decided to check out some forums to see what others have tried.

I was skeptical at first when I saw the posts on pressing the lens. I thought, no way could it be that simple. But it actually worked! I couldn't believe it! Thanks guys!
