Evo getting bad reviews so far?

obviously, intelligent people do not make life decisions based on reviews on the internet..

I loved my incredible, initially, as did EVERYONE who got one the first day..but then, for me at least, the call quality issue, random reboots, screen freezes, etc.
I still think its a great phone, but since Verizon has no stock to replace it, and they dont even acknowledge the problem, mine is going back, and I pre ordered 2 EVO's today..
Walt Mossberg...100% Apple Schill, and ass-kisser royale to Steve J...
PC Mag review; who cares, they review PC's, and basing your decision on a pre-release phone they tested out, is just silly.
Engadget has always been more impartial, and realistic in their reviews, so I tend to give what they say more credence, but, here again, the only way to know is to get one yourself, and try it out for a week or 2. Here is Chicago, we have alot of 4G, so I dont mind paying the extra 10 dollars, but I agree, that you shouldnt have to pay for it if you dont use it.
I guess by June 6th, when we have played with these things a couple of days, and we have finished complaining about the lousy battery life and lack of accessories available, the true measure of how good or bad these phones are will become evident..But to slam it before its even been released is just plain stupid, and shows a lack of intelligence and the ability to think independently..We all have our own minds; its time to start using them!

Incredible owner here. Love it and have had very few issues other than a few force closes which are more to do with the OS than anything specific to the phone (I am guessing these are the same FC's that one of the reviews mentioned).

I'm actually embarrassed that a fellow Incredible owner would come over to your forum to troll. The EVO is going to be a great phone. Will it have some issues? Most likely as it is a brand new device (just like the Incredible). But that's the price you pay for being an early adapter to anything.

Will it be better than the Incredible? We'll have to wait and see. Either way, competition is a good thing and it's great to see both Sprint and Verizon releasing cutting edge hardware.

I have never had any random reboots or screen freezes. In fact, I hardly have any issues with my phone. I absolutely love it.

Correction wase: phone has been released to reviewers.

:)

the folks at Google IO today definitely got ACTUAL PRODUCTION UNITS

correction jamor; until Google IO today, there was no way to know if the phone provided to reviewers were actual PRODUCTION UNITS..

But, the folks at Google IO today definitely got ACTUAL PRODUCTION UNITS

I worked for a Consumer Electronics mfg for 15 years, as the Director of Sales, so I know the difference between pre-release products and actual production units

Why would HTC release sub par phones to reviewers? That just seems silly.

Especially with how close to release we are, they can't possibly be any different than the consumer product.

Marketing disaster it would seem.

So I guess the hype is over - are you guys switching to Verizon now that the luster is gone and the phone isn't living up to it's name? It was also reviewed to be slower than the Incredible. Blah blah blah, I'm a dirty troll

Nah, I prefer an intact screen. :p

I don't get the in-fighting. The Evo and Incredible are basically the same platform with some differences. The Evo is a more superior spec'd phone for sure with the extra cam, 4G, 4.3 screen, etc. etc.

However, I was with Sprint and could have upgraded to the Evo on June 4th but I cancelled and went to Verizon for the Incredible...here are some of MY reasons why:

- Regardless of what people say I have come to prefer OLED screen over LCD
- 3.7" screen with same res as 4.3" screen makes it more pixel dense and easier on eyes
- Slimmer and smaller size makes it nice to hold and carry easily
- Verizon network - I've had Sprint for a year and their 3G network (which I'd be on most of the time with Evo based on reviews) ain't too hot. Roaming is BS, you only roam on 1X on Verizon so it's pointless.
- 8GB of internal memory - with Froyo, can move apps onto there for nice fast memory for expansion
- Will never use video calling
- 4G not in NY for a while and then will be limited to small region
- Hate sprint crapware on phones - Verizon has it's cityid which is annoying as all but not as bad as Sprint apps (which constantly run in background and you need to root to delete - from Hero experience)

This isn't to sway people away from getting an Evo, it's an excellent phone but there can be reasons for people to want the Incredible over it. Just my 2 cents.

I think some of these outlets were in such a mad scramble to get out a review quickly that maybe they didn't give themselves enough time with the evo. In my opinion CNET should have not posted their review until they concluded their battery drain tests.

Nope the Incredible is plagued with problems, every time u look up there is a new thread about something malfunctioning. You keep your phone, I'll keep mine

I would say "plagued" with problems is as much an overstatement as Sprint has 4G everywhere ;)

Now, if you want problems- the HD2- THAT's the ticket :)

Agreed on all counts. Verizon and Sprint should join forces and call themselves, "Sprizon" :)

why is the person using 4g to bring down the evo? if anything, 4g is a plus, since sprint is the only provider with it and the evo is the only phone that can currently utilize it.

if he/she really wants to talk about the phone, then talk about the PHONE. not the carrier or whatever.

so, besides 4g capability, what are the pros/cons of the evo?

The only way I will return EVO is if my battery life is like my current G1

I take out charger and phone would turn off in like 2 minutes.

No reason to buy battery for G1. Just waiting on the EVO.

Therein lies the problem, the biggest selling point is the 4G, so much so that Sprint is charging you $10/mo more for it. If you take away the 4G, the Evo is basically a bigger Incredible with an extra camera...

And unlimited data instead of 5GB a month.

I would pay the extra $10 a month just for that, without 4g. This thing is going to be great for streaming videos, and that eats up a lot of data.

And that's FINE with me.

:D

These are public forums - and I'm not the one making the negative reviews - I just want to know if they are scaring away customers - not sure how that is trolling.

Embarrassed? lol don't be silly. We have the same phones not blood.

:)

All those who keep saying it's the same phone as the Incredible are cracking me up.

Things the Incredible is lacking:
HDMI Output
Screen size
Kickstand
Support for 32GB cards
Front facing camera
A decent battery

Incredible has:
OLED screen
Optical Trackpad
8GB Internal Memory (but only supports 16GB cards for less TOTAL possible memory)
Pixel density (due to smaller screen)

I see them as very different phones. They have the same processor and both use Sense UI 2.1 as of right now, that does NOT make them "pretty much the same phone". I think both are great phones. I'm buying the Evo.

Seen any total negative reviews.....just minor dislikes. Who cares....it will be a good phone..im just ordering a extra battery.
