Root Evo turning off by itself, red light when plugged in, doesn't seem to be charging.

So the past few days my phone has just been turning off randomly by itself, (even while plugged in and charging) and when I plug it in and turn it back on the battery is almost completely drained.

This happened for the first time several days ago... My phone was plugged in, charging, and was at about 30% battery life. Then, all of a sudden, it just turned off.

I unplugged it and plugged it back in and got a flashing orange light for a while and then a solid orange light. I turned it back on, and it was at 0%. I let it charge, started using it again, and the same thing happened.

This happened again today. I had my phone plugged, and when I went to go check a text it wouldn't turn on.

I unplugged it and plugged it back in, and got a dim red light that blinked a couple times, and then nothing. No light at all.

I took out the battery and replaced it with a spare one I have, but still nothing.

I'm pretty furious at this point. Lol.

Thanks in advance for any help.

Yeah, start there, it's cheap enough!:)

you know whats even cheaper than that? The following :D

its either that or the kernel on the rom is malfunctioning, or the micro-sd port is bad. BAD SD PORT!!! BAD!!! If its the latter, then youre hosed without the insurance plan, but in either event, Id not hesitate to reinstall a rom after a cache/dalvik cache wipe to see if that rectifies the issue. Unless your battery is less than 1/3 to 1/2 full, THEN its a bad idea. And if your battery is that drained, find someone with a droid incredible (og) or an og evo to use as a charger. The og incredible uses the exact same battery. I have one(og incredible) in my pocket, trust me LoL

If you tried another battery and got the same result, it's likely the USB charging port. A common issue on the EVO 4g
