Help EVO won't power off

I searched the forums but can't find an answer. I turn the phone off at night, it says it's powering off, goes black. But when I push the power on button in the morning, it has never turned off. Looking at how long phone's been on battery confirms it's been on all night.

Whassup? and how to fix it aside from a battery pull? This is a new problem.

yeah powering off your phone doesnt actually power it off it puts it in sleep mode. This is how the stock is setup. I know you can "Reboot" the phone which is supposed to clean out cache and restart the ROM. I will search around and see if I can find a way to actually power it off. Not sure there is much to do without rooting however.

My word, I never knew that! The thing never turns off?? What if something's on that drags the battery completely out and you don't know because you think you'll charge in the morning?

Now I'm really confused.

Yeah I hear ya. I have to charge mine everynight.

Just when I think I've got it. I'll swear someone suggested turning off at night, charging in the morning 'til 100% and taking off the charger for the day.

But if the thing doesn't actually go off, why not just leave it on all the time, and charge when necessary?

Oy. Are my instincts wrong in wanting to "save" it all night by doing what I thought was turning it off?

You should atleast reboot at least once a week if not more. This cleans out cache. That can help with a lot of issues like fc. Some may argue that charging overnight might kill the battery quicker but they are cheap enough to buy a new one

PigHeadPolly here: how can you reboot if it won't turn off when you tell it to?? Pull the battery? Yes, I want to clean out everything, but that's what I thought I was doing when I said POWER OFF because I thought it would indeed.... power off.

Apparently, it no longer does? I'm now out into the weeds and need to be reeled back in. Looks like there's a visit to my Sprint Store unless someone here can straighten me out. Man, do I feel stupid.

If you press and hold down the power key the popup should give you the option to restart or reboot. I don't remember which one it is on the stock ROM. You shouldn't feel dumb either most of us are still learning how these things work That is why we try our best to help others learn.
