Help exchange active sync calendar problem (but not contacts or email)

Hi, I had this same problem and this is what solved it for me:

I cleared the data in Calendar and Calendar storage (Menu --> Settings --> Applications --> Manage applications).

Some people have suggested deleting the Exchange Activesync account. That might also work, but I didn't need to do that. Problem solved!

I tried your fix but unfortunately it does not work. As before, calendar items entered on a computer sync properly to my Incredible but items entered on the Incredible generate a "client/server" conversion error.

This is all a little crazy. I started this thread in early July when items entered into my Incredible calendar would generate "status errors". The fix that worked then was to delete and reinstall the my Exchange Account. That solution worked without a problem until the problem reappeared two days ago (now generating "client/server errors"). Now, reinstalling the Exchange Account does not fix it.

I would appreciate any suggestions.

Update/correction

I tried a double fix, deleting the Exchange Account, clearing out the data in the Calendar and Calendar Storage (some data was left even after the account was deleted) and then reinstalling the Exchange Account.

That did the job. Thanks for the tip

I am having a calendar problem Microsoft Exchange/Active Sync.

Calendar items I enter in my Incredible show up on Outlook. Initially, my Outlook calendar items also showed up on my Incredible but those calendar items have now disappeared after about three days and any new calendar items entered in Outlook do not appear.

Email works fine and contacts entered in either Outlook or the Incredible sync without a problem.

Thanks for any help.

Here's what caused it for me. I opened the "google" calendar to view it. Normally, I was using just the "exchange" calendar. Even though I closed the google calendar, it had messed something up. I then removed the exchange account...with the google calendar closed forever....and reinstalled the exchange account. Everything works fine.

With the help of contributors to this thread and HTC technical support, I think we finally have this problem nailed.

1) Delete the Exchange Account.

2) Delete all remaining data from the Calendar and the Calendar Cache: ((Menu --> Settings --> Applications --> Manage applications). as described above by Davids00).

3) Reboot the unit.

4) Reinstall the Exchange Account.

Thanks to all who worked on this.

I solved my sync problem with the approach described in this thread, but after a while it came back, like more people are experiencing. At another forum (I forgot where) I read about a trick that repaired my syncing. As follows:

- Open outlook
- Select list view for the calendar items
- Select all calendar items
- Right click: categorize your calendar items with a category of your choice
- Select all again
- Right click: uncategorize your calendar items
- Voila: syncing works again

This trick seems to 'repair' the calendar items. Which indicates that Exchange in some way "cripples" the calendar items. Al least in a way that HTC Syncing has problems with it.

Hope this helps someone.

Regards, Jan

PS. If you make heavy use of categorizing your calendar items in outlook, that's bad luck :-(

The category reset trick worked for me - now have to see how long it lasts !

ps make sure that after making the changes in Outlook that you wait for them to be fully synchronised back to the server before you re-sync on the phone

About two weeks ago when I landed at my destination I turned my phone on and received a "sync protocol error" with my exchange sync. My contacts and calendar would sync but not my email. I deleted account and added back and still didn't work at destination. I landed back home and the sync worked. I repeated the trip the next week and the exact same thing happened. What a pain if I have to keep deleting and adding exchange account. Anyone else having problem????

I got "Client/Server conversion error" when I tried to add certain events on my Desire HD, then tried to sync it.

I've figured out that this happens for the following two scenarios:

1. When I've entered something in the Description field.
2. When I've tried to create repeating entries.

I haven't figured out how to fix this (all that removing accounts and deleting calendar data does is delete the event in question). My best way to get around it is to create the entries in my Outlook Exchange account then sync it to my phone.

Had the "sychronization problems" dialog on my HTC Evo Shift and used the category reset technique (after unsuccessfully trying several outlook repair options) and it worked!

Thanks very much -- this was a real problem for me!

What exactly do you mean by "uncategorize the calendar items"? Do you have to eliminate the categories all together?

Well done, jjmurre! This did do the trick in my case, after having failed with the previous workarounds. Thank you!
Best regards, Simon

I was able to clear the client/server conversion error on an HTC Incredible by clearing all the data out of the calendar app using Menu/ Manage Applications. Then re-sync and the problem went away.

Using Calendar Pad as my calendar app.

The categorize/de-categorize solution just fixed the sync issue for me. HTC Inspire running Android 2.3.3 (Gingerbread?). I'm using BusinessCalendar instead of the stock Calendar.

I had sort of the opposite problem from the rest of you - no problem syncing calendar items except that if I delete an item, whether on the Android (Thunderbolt) or in Outlook, it would not delete from the device. The typical fix (deleting/recreating the account) fixed it for me.

I had the same problem only with my contacts instead of calendar. I deleted the exchange account and recreated it. It worked for me so far, thanks for all the tips.

I'm new here, so please forgive anything I say that is stupid. I use an EVO 4g, Outlook CAlendar, Contacts and email, and Google calendar. Everything sync'd fine in all directions. Then one day I notice that if I add a calendar item on my PC it will not show up on the phone. This is backwards from some of the problem I've read on this string. My IT dept. assured my nothing had ben changed with the exchange server. We delete the exchange acct, redid it and it worked for awhile. No it it does not work again, I have always been able to add calendar items on my EVO and have them show up everywhere. Recently my contacts stopped syncing as well. I've read about categorizes. Yes I do use them. I have not cleared data on Calendar on my phone because I do not know what that really does. Sprint did not know what to do. They even told me that it should only sync in one direction. That was when I took my phone out of the tech's hands and left. Help??!

I use calendar categories extensively, accept meeting notices on my phone and PC and after a few days the calendar syncing with my exchange server at work does not work anymore.
I also see that Google sync gives an "Sync is currently experiencing problems. It will be back shortly" error.
We need a fix for this ASAP!

Anyone come up with a fix for this one yet? I am having the same problem as AOESQ with my Evo. Mine seemed to coincide with the update to 2.3.5.

Calendar used to be so reliable, now I have to go back to my PC just to verify that its current.

I have noticed this issue with several other manufacturers of smart phones.
Just like everybody in this topic, i've been searching for a solution, but was unable to do so.
I've had contact with several people from the management staff of the manufacturers, but none of them were able to provide a sustainable solution.
Bottom line: They know the problem exists, but don't have a clue what the root-cause is!

Eventually i set out to investigate this matter on my own.
I am pleased to announce i have found the root-cause, and have tested a possible solution within a controlled, simulated environment (that shows the same issues as the actual devices).
After applying, extensive testing & refining the possible solution, ALL of the tests were succesfull and NONE of the simulated environments show any of the symptoms, since the "patch" was applied, almost 4 months ago!

Currently, i am trying to reach the appropriate department managers, within the involved companies, but it seems that no one is willing to answer my request for communication on this subject.

As soon as i have been able to break down the "walls of communication", i will let you all know... untill then, all we can do, is wait! :(

@Taz, I respectfully disagree.

You can post your findings here thereby shaming the vendors (maybe into DOING something about this). I am sure many would be interested in your findings. Some may be capable of solving the problem without vendor help. Maybe not, but that's no reason to keep your findings a secret.

Information wants to be free.

Like everyone else I experienced an error when ActiveSync attempted to sync my calendar (HTC Evo 4).

did the following:
All apps
Settings
Accounts & sync
Microsoft Exchange (un check all sync options)
Applications
Manage applications
All
Calendar
clear data
Accounts & sync
Microsoft Exchange (check all sync options)

It synced right up and I didn't lose anything.

Hope this helps any one else who is experiencing this problem.

This worked for me, thanks. Spent days trying to get calendar sync working on a refurbished Samsung Galaxy S3 upgraded to Android 4.4.3 (KitKat). Email and tasks worked fine, but I was not syncing any calendar events. Clearing device caches and settings, reinstalling apps and accounts did not fix the problem.

Oddly, I have multiple Jellybean devices (Motorola, HTC, Samsung) that were syncing fine from the same account and server.
