Help Exchange mail constant synch problem ICS

johannes

Lurker
I'm on SGS2 with ICS 4.03 and since upgrading to ICS I've found an irritating bug with Exchange 2010 where it seems to constantly be pushing emails to my phone, despite me having synch set to manual and indeed, switching sync off entirely.

Does anyone else have this problem? I've seen a lot about excess battery drain related to exchange - in my case I think this is at least part of the problem.

I think I may have cracked it. When you add mailboxes via the stock mail app if you look during setup there's a checkbox saying 'push notifications', which defaults to ticked. I unticked this. It seems like when this is left on, it overrides whatever synch schedule you set. If I'm right, this is pretty stupid design; if I'm wrong, then I'm stupid ;)

Secondly I did a factory reset on my handset and wiped it clean. I loaded back on all my stuff (I left off the economist app, which absolutely rapes battery) and now - touch wood - it seems to work much better. Battery lasts 2 days, and when I set my mailboxes to manual synch, they actually do it.

I still think overall ICS is pretty crap - the only noticeable improvement I've seen is the panorama mode on the camera. The rest is just minor cosmetic stuff, and with the menu changes I think they've made the OS less rather than more intuitive to use.
