Help Exchange not working

I could sync mail and contacts with the server set as server: "owa.mycompany.com/exchange"

I deleted the account and tried again with a slightly different url for server: "owa.mycompany.com"

This worked better! the calendar now works and sync'ed OK.

Just tried roadsync and am pretty happy with it so far. It synced my contacts to the native android contacts app which what I really wanted for call log and caller id purposes. Pretty psyched!

The email and calendar came through great too, but they use proprietary apps from road sync, not the corporate calendar or email app, but that is actually OK. The contacts one is the one I was most interested in using the native app for.

Oddly enough I never got prompted for a pin nor did I enter one in the roadsync settings. It just works somehow.

This looks to be worth the $10 until they fix the native support.

John

How did you get the file to download? I'm getting an error message <unknown> cannot download. The size of the item cannot be determined.

My Exchange guys exempted me from the Mobile Security Policy, and now I can sync everything fine on the Droid. But, I view this as just an insecure workaround. Google really needs to fix this.

While they are at it, they need to add in support for an Accept/Decline button on invite emails received, and also support for the Exchange GAL.

I have tried and tried and everytime I hit refresh on the Corporate Calendar it says Authentication Failed. I dont get why it fails when email and contacts work!!!

I had this same problem. I figured it out on my own. when you are setting up the corporate account you should not change the settings on the second page. Under domain/Username DO NOT put in your Domain. just leave it as it shows up /username. Try this. I kept getting the same error. Let me know if this works.

I also thought there was a problem with exchange on this box but I found this great Microsoft website to test exchange mobile connectivity.

https://www.testexchangeconnectivity.com/Default.aspx

After checking my exchange server I discovered that if you have exchange 2003 with just one server mobile devices will not work without a special fix.

everything is working now..

Sure would like to know more about the "special fix" that you found. I went to that website as well and it did a bunch of stuff and came back with a bunch of technical jargon that I didn't understand. I have contacted my IT guru and asked him about installing SP2 for our 2003 exchange server and he said to be careful doing that. What gives?

Oddly enough my calendar just started working yesterday. I didnt change anything but it now works!!! Go figure...:D

Ran that test again on my server and the thing that keeps coming back is it can't find activesync on the server. This is the same thing that Touchdown says as well. I went on the server and executed the active sync from the .exe file and when it installed it wanted me to connect my device to the server. Kindof weird so I didn't do it. Still having the same issues. Just talked to VZW support again...they called me back believe it or not and there are a TON of people with this issue and they have been sending these issues to Motorola for their correction. That is why I haven't been in any hurry to make any significant changes to my server because I am not sure that will solve any problems. I am tempted to install the SP2 for exchange to see if that helps but my IT guy said to be careful since the exchange was originally installed from the 2009 sbs software that there could be problems? Deadends at every turn!

All ActiveSync Exchang test passed with the following info:

Manually specify server settings: webmail.contoso.com
Domain\Username: contoso\wiley
domain password
check "Sync all items in inbox folder"
check "Ignore trust for SSL"

If failed with the "Ingore trust for SSL" checked.

Any idea how I can get it to recognize activesync at all on my server? Is your exchange 2003 or 2007? If it is 2003 is SP2 installed on it?

Thanks,
Bryan

Exchange 2003 SP2, multiple mail server environment.

ActiveSync for Exchange is enabled, OMA is not. We have security enabled for ActiveSync, I added myself to the ASE security exception list a few days ago. I do not yet have a Droid, waiting for this Exchange functionality to be fixed.

WOW!

Thank you! I removed domain and now everything works! Email, contacts, calendar!

Too bad I paid for touchdown this morning. grrr.

Now I need them to add GAL support and invite accepting

@NCBRYAN

Activesync is part of exchange 2003 sp2. if you do not have sp2 you do not have activesync.

if you are running just one server you will need to add a second owa site and change some settings in the registry to point active sync to that site.
..

If you have exchange 2003 and a dedicated front end server you do not need to do anything.

if you are still having issues I would be happy to post the full set of instructions on this thread.

I can access my work email via the internet and logging into the Outlook Web Access option. Anyone have luck setting up a POP account that has this Outlook Web availability? I got the settings from the company that runs our corp server....they don't "support" setting it up like this, they want you to the Exchange thing, but I don't want to access my virtual work desktop on my Droid, just get company email pushed to my phone. Just wondering if anyone has been successful in setting it up as a POP account on their Droid. Thanks!

I don't know what you mean by "virtual work desktop" the exchange active sync is a push technology that will push your corporate email to your phone. you do not need to push contacts or calender if you do not want too.

setting up pop account will not support push. you will have to schedule your sync times to retrieve your email.

Checked device security. It was not checked so this should not be the issue. Email inbox syncs, subfolders do not, unless refresh, calendar says authentication failed. Any options for the calendar. Contacts come in and work great.

I am on the $30 plan. I was able to setup exchange & was able sync calendar & email in minutes. It works over 3g & home wi-fi as well.

interesting. My corporate has a website dedicated to iphone active sync & I just followed the same instructions, including entering the domain\username.

Could I ask someone to please check their http(s)://exchange/MobileAdmin/ page and check their exchange account and post back how many devices are partnered to your exchange account?>

I have a personal verizon plan user who got his to sync flawlessly, when I set him up in the exceptions list. i see two 'devices' syncing, at the same time each time in the MobileAdmin page.

What is getting frustrating is that my email and contacts worked, but not calendar. so i called verizon again and had them verify my account is set up correctly. my phone is on the business side. the personal account droid was set up for "web and email" but that option does not exist on the business side account said verizon. i am set up for "enterprise pda"

i removed my exchange info, re-added it, and now i can get calendar! and contacts again, but email is not working, yet, but i can send email.

I am just baffled. I don't want to by RoadSync yet....maybe i should wait 15 hours for my email to show up...thats how it worked the first time...

Well I guess I'm one of the lucky people able to get my Droid syncing with our Exchange server, we're running SBS 2008.

On Windows Mobile we had the option to have an Off-Peak schedule (under ActiveSync) and you could choose the action for syncing during that time. For example, you could set it to check/push mail from 7AM-10PM and then manual for all other times.

It seems with the Droid I have to just about turn it off to stop syncing. I'm tired of it waking me up at night from spam or mailing lists. :( Plus I need to be able to hear it for the emergency phone call. (Elder parents... Teenage kids, etc.)

I don't want to have to jump through 9 hoops each night to make it work, like turning off the alerts, then reset it all in the morning. I thought these devices were designed to make our lives more efficient. :)

Please tell me if I'm missing something or if anyone has a time schedule sync work around.

Oh and I did try to use the native Power Widget on the desktop (the one with WiFi, BT, GPS, Sync, and Contrast) and turn off but I think that only seems to work with the Gmail app. I may be wrong.

Thanks for the help.

You might want to check out an app called Locale - it will adjust your sound settings based on time and/or location automatically.

I was able to get my calendar to show up but nothing was showing up in my inbox.

I got it working in exchange 2007 by selecting the option for "allow non-provisionable devices" had to be checked.

Took about 10 mins to start working after that.

Exchange does not work on the Droid for servers that require PIN locking and/or remote wipe security policies. Confirmed that. You have to use a 3rd party app like 'Touchdown' to access Exchange. In fact, try to see if Touchdown works and, if it does, then you know that is why your corporate email account isn't working.

Very annoying that this phone has been advertised as able to sync with your corporate email via Exchange, yet not ONE reviewer mentioned this VERY big limitation.

Incorrect. My company requires Pin and has a wipe policy and I setup my moto droid on my exchange network without any issues. I also used Touchdown and it worked as well. For touchdown when I initiated a wipe it cleared all the settings and did not push anymore. My phone was fine. For native exchange setup on the phone when I initiated a wipe it didnt do anything accept disable me from receiving e-mails. Once I when through setup keeping the existing settings it worked just fine.

In regards to the exchange being an extra $15... this is incorrect. The extra $15 is for Verizon hosting the exchange. I am using Exchange for my $30 data plan.

OK, so I've tried both of these third party apps now for a few days and wanted to share my experience with you and get some feedback and possible work arounds etc.

BTW, It looks like even if android fixes the pin security issue we may still need to use third party apps to fill in gaps in the stock apps.

TD = Touchdown 4.0.0017, RS = Roadsync 1.0010(110)

TD supports global address book, RS does not. There is an app from Motorola to browse the GAB that works, but you need to have the stock sync configured. Like the stock corporate calendar it worked even without pin support.

TD shows meeting attendees, RS does not

RS compose new message a bit clunky, much better on TD

TD forces me to enter pin, RS does not

TD has link to location field for map

RS syncs to stock contacts app, TD does have option to copy (or is it integrate??) contacts to stock app

TD syncs tasks (though a little tough to navigate / sort), RS does not. Considering using Remember the Milk as an alternative. It syncs to the web app and has a few android client.

RS allows accept of invites sent via mail. - this feature alone is the one that may force me to use RS instead of TD, though most of the other features in TD are superior. Stock cal allows accept in cal app, not mail

Neither supports notes - looking to use evernote instead as there is an android beta available and I think it syncs with the web and desktop clients.

Neither cal widget looks to show the next, non all day item correctly

That's about it for now. I appreciate any feedback and suggestions for work arounds. I need to buy one of these and the TD trial has actually ended. I don't want to run both since I think it would drain the battery faster doing extra polling. I also want to cut down the noise in the notifications and app collection.

John

Do both refresh the subfolders? Very poor native support will not refresh subfolders. I can get around everything except sent items folder. I like having that one always current.
