Help Exchange Synchronization

Hi,

I'm doubtful that anyone will have a solution to this, but I'm giving it a shot anyway.

I had my phone syncing my work e-mail perfectly. Then my IT department moved me to a new Exchange server (upgrated from 2003 to 2010, Might not hae the versions right) and I pointed my phone at the new Outlook Web Access server, but no joy. It keeps telling me that it can't connect to the server.

I thought it was the version, but I later tried going to the site from my phone's browser and I get an error that "There are problems with the security certificate for this site. So now I am thinking that this may be the issue.

Does anyone know a way around the certificate issue with the mail app? Or maybe a way to figure out what certificate I need so that I can install it on the phone?

TIA!

My school recently switched to OWA and I had to change around my credentials a little bit- not knowing what you have/have done, here is what works for me:

  • My Domain\Username changed to : "outlook.com\{my full email address}" (changed from just my actual username and the school's domain)
  • Password stayed the same
  • server is "outlook.com" (changed from my school's server address)
  • and I had to check both SSL checkboxes (YMMV)
  • My school doesn't use Client certificates, but your work probably does, and it might have even changed for the new server. If so you'll have to find/download the newest one and use it.
Other than these I don't know what the issue might be. My domain\username was not what the instructions at both my school's IT dept. and the OWA site says it should be, so you might have to play with it.
Odd that it won't work in the browser either (not sure if the browser would check certificates or not)...

@s.m.knipe Thanks so much for taking the time to reply!

The certificate is for the SSL communication between the phone and the server. It does not matter if it is the browser or phone that is senting the request, the certificate is needed to set up the SSL connection.

Out IT department has told me what the domain name is that I need to use and I know others that are using that same domain name so it is not the problem.

Sure! Sorry it wasn't of any help. When my school switched over last year I spent about three weeks playing with it until I got it set up correctly. Are those other people using that domain name on Android? and if so which devices/manufactures? The setup was different on my Motorola Atrix than it was on my Nexii because of Moto's proprietary code for Exchange compatibility. For the Atrix I had to put a "m." in front of "outlook.com" for domain name, but "www.outlook.com" for the server...
