Root Existing settings / first custom ROM

I'm looking to flash my first ROM, thinking of Redux 1.2, should I wipe all before flashing this? Or is it compatible with Sense?

Is it just a factory Reset that I need to do?

Thanks.

It is always good practice to wipe the cache & a full wipe before installing any rom, also always flash the recommended radio for the rom before flashing the rom its self.

Hmm, not overly keen on flashing a radio, heard scary things about that!!
Would rather keep existing... possibly depending on ROM?

What radio are you using? Although some may work better than others, any Froyo radio ought to work.

Since Redux is AOSP and you are coming from Sense, a wipe is mandatory. Take backups (e.g. Ti) and nandroid first, and do not restore settings from Titanium.

I was going to try flashing my durst ROM just now, but I have thickened out and will wait till I'm more awake...

I have TI'd my phone, as well as backed up apns/sms etc.

Will the flashing automatically move all apps to sd, or will I have to restore apps once completed?

My ti shows only a few restore apps available (without system data), I've downloaded alot of apps, but most have been move to SD.

Once new ROM is loaded, I presume simple setting re input and restore apps and I'm away?

Don't bother with the radio.
If you have moved apps to SD card before flashing, then restoring them from TB should also move them to SD card.
Just restore the apps from TB you need and you are good to go.

I recommend using mybackup pro for sms.

Just don't restore contacts if you use Google contacts

I've only moved the apps that I can currently (using froyo) to SD. I presume I can't move the rest - using A2SD - until I flash a rom that supports it!

Once that ROM is flashed, I take it the apps move automatically?

They dont move to the same partition as froyo uses. Froyo (or gingerbread) standard "move to SD" moves to FAT32 partition.

They need to be moved back to phone, then a2sd+ moves them to the EXT partition.

Have another read of my apps2sd+ FAQ to clarify if you're unsure.

Ah, got it. Any apps on the phone go to the ext part of th SD card, and when I 'move' apps from SD to phone, after the Rom is flashed, is automatically put back to ext SD!

And if I save the zip file Rom download, on my SD card root (drag and drop onto it in my computer) the go into recovery and wipe then install, thats it done?

Blimey... east or what! :-)

Yep, all apps on "internal" or "phone" are moved partly to EXT partition.

I'll be honest, that completely confused me. What are you asking / trying to do?

EDIT, Oh ok youre saying drag n drop via my computer to SD card? Yep. Thats it. Make sure you do backups of everything first though ;)

hehe.

It was the "drag and drop onto it in my computer" I read it as "drag and drop it onto my computer" :)
