Help Expandable storage (Micro SD) limit

New kernel New drivers. Allowing old tech to do New shit.
I'm just glad LP fixed the infamous KK can't write to external sd card bug that was popping up and having to be patched by modders. LoL! That was annoying for awhile, IDKWTF Google was thinking by doing that.

I know nobody has posted here in a while but figured id report my stylo on MM using a tiwan no name "class 10" 128GB card no problem
Hard to beat 128gb (125gb) for $5 shipped from china.

Did you test their authenticity with h2testw (free) or another reliable method for verifying capacity?

Fake capacity flash cards and drives are rampant on eBay, and through third-party market sellers on Amazon, Newegg, and other established retailers. It's terrible that places one would think are reliable like these do very little to crack down on the fraudsters selling these fake cards and drives.

Consumers are buying these fakes by the boatload, which initially appear to be functioning fine, and only weeks or months later find the card is not working right. They end up losing data, and just as bad, sometimes blaming their hardware for the malfunctions and sending the device back to the seller or manufacturer.

So anyone with one of these cards at a magic price, please test with h2testw or another reliable test. Post results. If they end up to be real, I will buy them too!

Here's how to protect yourself from the fraudsters:

1) Buy flash cards and drives directly from established, well known retailers like Amazon, Best Buy or Newegg and always avoid their marketplace sellers. That means it has to say something like "Sold by and ships from Amazon" next to the product.

2) If the seller is unknown, like most on eBay, make sure the return policy is rock solid, and test the card or drive with h2testw or something similar as soon as it arrives.

If you do at least one of those two things, you should never be stuck with a fake capacity card or drive.

Don't let these scammers rip you off!

Running h2testw on one now. Looks like its going to take a while to test (the card reader in my pc maxes out around 8mb/s) but ill report back.

I laugh every time i see a micro sc card listed as 256gb or 512gb as everybody knows those are fake.

Yes, sorry, h2testw is slow and can take many hours to test, especially for large capacity cards. But it is accurate and reliable.

See the link below for alternatives, some of which may be faster.

I have only used h2testw on smaller cards up to 32gb. I have two 128gb cards, both bought directly from a major retailer, so I didn't test them at all for capacity. I just used Crystal Mark to do speed tests. Both have worked fine without any issues. One is in one of my Stylos.

My card reader is dirt slow too (old factory dell part i reused) but on a sad note my 1tb hdd failed last night. I got back up on my backup drive and restarted the sd test.

Looks like they are most likely fake cards. After it got past 7.3gb of verify it started showing data loss. "Warning the media is likely to be defective". (card formatted as ntfs).
Going to test the other 2 as well and for s&g my other micro sd cards as well.

Id say if anybody ordeded them cancel asap

I ordered, you know those aren't supposed to be formatted NTFS. That may be some of your problem. I won't cancel, and I'll post my findings. While it seems "too good to be true" I have a different take than most when it comes to things in general. We'll see what we'll see

Wow, together with your hdd failing, it looks like this isn’t your lucky month.

If I were you, I’d email the sellers (or call if they have a number) and tell them the cards “failed an h2testw test” and that you’d like a quick refund. That’s all you need to say. The worst they can do is say no, but they just might give you back your money back. If they say no, see if your cc company will do a chargeback.

I bought a cheap Sandisk-branded card on eBay about 2 years ago and it failed an h2testw test. I emailed the seller and simply told him it failed that test and he refunded my PayPal account in full within a few hours – no questions asked and he didn’t even ask me to send the card back.

The scammers very well know they are selling fake capacity cards and are simply preying on unaware consumers. Don’t allow them to profit from this. They are hoping you never find out … that in a few weeks or months when the card fails to accept more files, that you chalk it up to simply a “failed” card as opposed to a “fake” card – or to a faulty card slot or corrupt OS. By that time, it is well past the 30-day return period.

NTFS is fine for flash cards and drives when used with a PC. One of my 128gb cards is in my Asus convertible tablet PC running Windows 10 and is formatted in NTFS and works absolutely fine. And, at any rate, h2testw doesn’t care if it’s Fat32 or NTFS, it will run its test reliably on either format. As for mobile devices, while most do require Fat32, I know there are some instances where custom ROMs or Android apps can work with NTFS.

I took a look at that site that sells those 128gb cards. I would be willing to bet most, if not all, their flash cards and flash drives are fake capacity. And the ones with the brand names like Sandisk or Transcend are counterfeits.

The only place I buy my SD cards anymore is from B&H Photo and Video in New York, NY. I've never had a bad card from them. It's also to my advantage that I can simply visit them when I have the time. Be careful if you buy from them over the mail/internet: don't use USPS unless you don't have any other convenient shipping methods available to you, esp. if you need rush shipping. Better to use UPS. Thank the gorillas in the US Congress for messing with USPS funding.

You can't even buy 128GB micro-SD for $15 here in China. They're fake. And doesn't matter what format you use, FAT32, exFAT, NTFS, EXT, they still won't work.

As I said, too good to be true.

Nope, don't agree, I ruined a 32card with NTFS until I learned that above 32 gb it's best with exfat. I have 3- 64's and 1 32 all formatted in exfat.
