Experiences after using 5.7.893 update - HOLY CRAP!!!

The new 5.7.893 is AMAZING!!!

The radio standby is actually LOWER than the display...

It looks like their OTA update fixes the issues that the radio chip caused...

P.S. this is on 4g too...

Was this a true OTA or via Cheesecake? Just curious if it has been confirmed that 5.7.893 is indeed the final OTA...

Is there anyway I can update without rooting my phone? I keep losing connection and its getting worse everyday :(

Yes. You must be rooted on the stock moto rom.

Edit: I believe you need to be rooted to get the 5.5.893 amd 5.6.893 update but not sure about the 5.7.893 update. Sorry.

I updated via the ZIP files found above.

You can update without rooting at all, all you have to do is download the ZIP files, put them on your SD card, make sure you are NOT encrypted and then boot into stock recovery and apply the update ZIPs.

You do NOT have to be rooted at ALL to apply the zip files.

What zip files? You got me clicking on every word on your OP. Lol.:p

Many apologies.

The links to the update files are in this thread: http://androidforums.com/bionic-all-things-root/434407-how-flash-893-update-maintain-root.html

The first post talks about keeping a permanent root, I do NOT need root so I skipped this procedure, downloading the necessary ZIP files from the links, and then applied them.

Keep in mind there is a zip named 5.5.893, and then one that has the same name but MR1 behind 5.5.893 (this is actually 5.6.893, for some reason it is still named 5.5 though...).

The very end has the last file named 5.6.893 (actually 5.7.893).

No apologies needed, bro. I was messing with you. Thanks again!

So I can only get 5.7 by rooting?

I'm beginning to regret cheesecaking the 5.6 if the 5.7 is really that much better...

See Easily upgrade to 5.7.893 AND keep root - xda-developers

if you want to maintain root (IOW, you're rooted and want to keep it / you want to have root after applying the updates) then you need to go to stock, root, and perform the forever root fix before applying any of the updates.

Why? You can still update. At least that's my understanding.

Sorry, I should have been more clear. I cheesecaked to 5.6.893 and then install Th3ory Rom. So, to get back on Th3ory with the latest radio I would need to go all the way back to stock :(

I have not flashed any roms, but am Rooted and have used Titanium Back UP to freeze bloat..... will I be able to apply the forever root as is?

AFAIK you need to unfreeze your bloat first. And if you want to keep root you need to do the forever root.

Yeah, I hear you. It's a pain. I'm on the same boat but if Vehtemas provides more positive feedback on the upgraded radio, it might be worth the pain. :D

I will keep you guys updated.

So far all I have is one day of data to show you, but it DOES look positive at first glance...

Also - can you look in About Phone and see if you have a Webtop version listed anymore after going to 5.7.893?

Because I don't....

I think I'll just do the step by step upgrade to ensure webtop is still on my Bionic. I actually use the webtop hack a lot.

Thanks everyone.

Dang, I can't wait to get home. haha
