Why does the explanation point appear, and how does one delete it?

More info... Where does it appear, what does the screen say? Is it in an app? ...?

The icon is at the top left of the Epic (independent of application).

You mean on the notification bar? Pull it down and see. It's most likely an error message.

It's on the same line as the 3G icon, the battery icon, the clock, etc. . . . but to the left.

Yeah, that's the notification bar. Pull down on it and see.
