Exploit Viruses

I just rooted my phone and loaded Cyanogen 7 on it. In the process I copied all my files from the SD card to my PC for safe keeping. Now when I run Security Essentials on the PC, I am getting all sorts of virus warnings...or maybe it is just malicious software warnings pointing to some apks particularly gingerbreak.apk. I guess the root ROM has been hacked and perhaps this and changing the OS has raised some flags. I am not having any problems with the phone, nor with the PC for that matter, just when I run virus and malicious software. Any thoughts or comments on why this is occurring. Thanks. Clinton Terry

most likely a false positive, if you got cm7 from here id deff say false positive, ive never had any type of virus or bloatware or spyware or anything like that come from a dev on this site

its most likely seeing that there is an exploit somewhere or its reading that that program is operating in ways it shouldnt, like gingerbreaks ability to insta root ur device by taking control to change what needs to be changed for root to be possible

curious op what anti-virus program are you running? i never have had any issues with either webroot or trend micro anti-virus programs. i have both and never have i had any viruses on my pc.....to be honest i would ignore the warnings.

He's running the native Windows Security Essentials thing. I had issues with that, too. No false pos's on Kaspersky, though.

I've gotten false positives on Security Essentials too. However, never on APK's which is interesting. Then again, I'm usually downloading ones that probably don't look suspicious.

When I get spam emails, there are often their .zip attachment in my Download folder on the SD card.
These attachments contain trojans and viruses, they do not harm my Android phone but they would harm my PC if I'd transfer and open them on the PC.

And the virus program on my PC would give me an alarm :)

Isn't an APK actually an executable? That would trigger an alert of some kind. I didn't get warnings per se from Eset, but a reminder asking me to upload "suspicious" files to be checked. I'd look in Eset panel to see which files, and they were all APK.
All from sideloaded apps onto a non-Google tablet, or from Cyanogen Mod.

Thanks. I too thought these were false positives. Security essentials is the only program that sees these as a problem. I ran a couple of spyware and maleware programs and they were fine wth them. In any event, I am going to copy these files to a spare SD card and store them this way...in case I ever need these files...and they will not be on my PC any more. Just avoiding the annoyance.
