the reason i ask is the end result is to backup "quick texts" which i need a lot of, apps only seem to backup recieved and sent texts but i need "quicktexts", so i thought if i could explore the dhd (like windows explorer ) then i could find the location of the quick texts and save them.

Maybe you'd be better off with a separate app for these quick texts? If you search the Android market you'll find several. One that looks like it would fit your requirements is QuickText Pro, which specifically states that you can backup your quick texts. It costs
