Help exreme lag

I hate to complain, since really this is a beautiful phone, but I wanted to ask a couple questions regarding the slide out keyboard. First, while typing, does anyone else notice an oddly large lag between the time you hit the key and the time it registers? Also ive noticed that if i close an app or anything that used the keyboard while the keyboard is still out, the UI will take VERY long to load.. Anyone else have this or these problems and if so are there any solutions to them? Thanks very much for any help!

Aye! It may not be exactly as you've described but the lag is definitely there. And it seemed to have gotten worse when I upgraded to 2.2.1. There are certain combinations where the homescreen screen refresh takes excruciatingly long (ie. 2 - 2.5 sec.)

I have noticed this effect on certain web sites. The Android Forums is one such web site. I ended up using the virtual keyboard on this site because it is faster. For many other things and other sites, I do not have this typing lag issues. Email and text messages have no lag at all.

I did recently get a firmware upgrade a couple of weeks ago. After the upgrade, the lag went away for me.

Hi all,
Just got my DZ... and I'm dissapointed.
I've just performed a side by side comparison with a Desire, which my wife's had for 2-months now... and the Desire is almost always faster by a second... or even two when compared to my brand spanking new (latest FOTA) DZ. It's running Android 2.2.1 and HTC SW 1.84.421.1.

Here's what I note:
- As I flip through screens the DZ typically shows loading for a second or three. Desire - immediate.
- Scroll up and down the Settings screen the DZ typically shows scrolling lag. Desire - smooth as butter.
- If starting an SMS, then switching to lscape mode and using the keyboard... when the SMS is sent, the Home screen displays ... with no widgets for at least 3 to 4 secs. Desire... well no keyboard but landscape to portrait is perfectly ok.
- Favourites takes a second or two. Desire... faster by a second.
- Pressing the Home button... the Return button... Desire is always noticeably faster.

Help anyone??? Please... .

Turning off live wallpaper seemed to help somewhat, but not enough for me.

The only things I'm doing on the phone is call, txt and use it as a hotspot. I do most of my mobile work on the iPad. Sorry, I had to do it to remain sane.

The DZ leaves a lot to be desired.

Here's a bit of good news for me. I uninstalled Call Recorder (which continuously ran in the background) and my DZ almost immediately jumped back to life. It still has a screen lag when I extend/retract the keyboard, but overall GUI response has improved.

So I'm not buying an iPhone 4 after all.

Root + Set CPU + Custom Kernel = Problem solved... not that I had a problem with my Desire Z before I rooted it. If anything, it was faster than my original Desire.

And I've never had any problems with the keyboard, it's always worked nice and smooth.
