Ext vs Int SD Card

I have been reading the forums since I got the phone. I don't THINK my exact problem has been addressed but I will apologize in advance if I missed it.

I plug the phone into the computer, mount and it sees one drive on the phone. I renamed it "Android Int" just to keep track of it on other computers. My problem is I can't access the external SD Card. At least I think. The drive that pops up is the one with the "android" folder and the "dcim" folder (plus many others)

When I use Astro on the phone the one difference is I can see an "sd" folder mixed in with all the others that pop up on the computer. It does not show up in win explorer, just in astro.

Is there a way to easily see/manage files on the external sd card vs the internal one? Is there a reason the phone can see it and back things up there but I can't see it on my computer? or am I seeing it and just too dumb to know what I am looking at?

I'm on Win7...As long as I use mass Storage, it assigns a drive letter to both the int and ext SD card.

Dumb question... but you know your phone doesn't come with an external MicroSD card in the slot, right? You do actually have a card inserted?

If so, both drives should appear on the PC with the USB cable connected once you choose "mount" on the Captivate. More info can be found in the Captivate FAQ:

haha...yeah I am aware of that. I bought a 16gb ext.

One thing I just noticed. when I go into the phone settings it has unknown info for my external sd. Basically like it can't see it. BUT when I go into Titanium for example it shows me my space on internal memory, internal SD and external SD. It DOES say that the external sd has the exact same space used as the internal SD. Seems fishy to me. FYI they both claim to have about 6.6 GB used, 6.5 GB free.

also I have tried to plug in on an XP and W7 machine. Nothing. I have to be doing something wrong I just can't figure out what.

Well that's a bad sign. Try re-inserting it. If that doesn't help, try accessing the card on a USB card reader connected to a PC.

You might want to also try formatting it.

That's normal behavior for Titanium Backup if you don't actually have an external SD card inserted/mounted.

Tried plugging the phone in, or just the card in a card reader?

Your phone isn't seeing the card. Either the card is bad (hardware or format), or there's something wrong with your Captivate (software or MicroSD slot).

When I mount the device I see two removable drives in My Computer. One is the Phone and the other is the SD Card. If you just go into SD card on the Phone drive it will be empty. You need to access the second drive. That may be your issue

Great idea. I will try the card in my reader.

I actually finally just called web dev friend I know. His first thought was...bad card. He is pretty sure of that. BUT I will try the other ideas first. Thanks for your help. These forums are great.
