Accessories Extended Batteries, yay or nay?

okay so i have seen a few threads on extended batteries and what not, but not enough feedback to help decide if its worth it. just wondering if anyone has used and if they have seen much improvement?
 
I've never had any luck with 'em in the past. Maybe they've changed in the past 3 years, but who knows.
 
Over on XDA, consensus seems to be that barring the ones that are physically huge adn come with a new bulky back cover, they're no better than OEM.

Assuming you've done all the usual tricks (always-on data turned off, wifi sleep policy 15mins, screen brightness down a notch and background notification sync frequency for all apps reduced)?
