Help Extended Battery Going DOWN While on Charger

Hey guys,

I got my Galaxy Nexus around October with a free extended battery from Sprint that I've been using and since then I've been very impressed. Probably one of the best phones I've used. Love the interface and overall design.

Past couple days, I've noticed that my battery seems to go DOWN as its on the wall charger. This has only happened in the past day or 2 and its getting frustrating. I've taken the battery out and let it rest for awhile and the same issues come up.

Any ideas?

It may not really be discharging, but may seem so. Battery Calibration app from the Play Store may well help with that, mclarryotto.

Welcome to the fourms. ;)

I downloaded it. It says I have to Root my device first. Do I REALLY have to delete everything to get this to work? And it does seem to go down even as its on the charger. I looked at the percentage go down.

when you say it is going down, how much is it going down to? Is it just dropping from 100% to 95% or higher? Or is it going down to 70%? lower?

How long does it take for this drop to occur?

To clarify what he's saying, when the battery is between 95% and 100% its just a "trickle charge". It will charge to full, then stop charging. Then when the battery drops a couple percent, it will start charging again. That's normal intended behavior.

Discharging a SIGNIFICANT amount isn't terribly abnormal if your doing a ton a power hungry tasks, but if its sitting there "idling" there is something wrong. Or going by your description, it doesn't even sound like its in the phone, which is even worse.

It goes down even when in running NO apps and just texting every now and again while on the charger! Sometimes small amount or a large amount.

Define "small" / "Large" amount - how much of a drop are you seeing? (From what % to what %)

Does your phone ever charge to 100%?

When you see a large drop, look at battery (under settings) - what app is consuming the maximum power? (to do this, charge to 100%, and restart your phone - power off and power on, and then, monitor the battery usage to see what app is taking more power)

How do you charge your phone? Do you use the regular wall charger? Or do you charge off the USB port of a computer?

While "fully" charged on the wall charger, the phone will vary between mid-90's and 100%

This is NORMAL.

If its dropping below 90% while on the charger this is ABNORMAL

look at your battery under settings It should say "charging-AC"

also look to see if any apps your not using are taking a lot of the battery. you may have a app that is corrupt.

I've powered it off and back on and it does the same thing. I just left it on the wall charger, the home screen says "charged", but immediately after I take it off the lock screen, it drops to 98%-99%. It NEVER did that before that fast. The phone charges to 100% but for only a few seconds, then before i even get to run ANY apps, it hits 99%-97%. Its never done that until lately

I've used both wall and USB chargers and they do the same thing. Sometimes its a big drop, sometimes its a 1%-2% drop at a time.

The only thing that has taken up the battery life after I restart the phone is the screen, which I've adjusted the brightness of SEVERAL times.

Im convinced its the phone or batteries. I took out the extended battery and used the regular one that I've never used before and when I charged it overnight, it was around 88%, then when I used it to text a couple people, it went DOWN significantly while STILL on the charger.

your having something draining the battery faster than it can charge. i had this with a roms i tried in the past. could be the rom you're on (if rooted), an app running in the background. or (less likely) there's just something wrong w your phone.

check your apps, see if ones updating or running in the background.

I've checked apps several times and even powered off the phone and ran no apps and the same thing thing happens.

Do not know how to root the phone.
