External Antenna?

I have an HC1M860M with MetroPCS service. The signal strength is just one bar and audio quality is terrible from my home. I'm hoping an external antenna will fix that. Has anyone tried hooking up an external antenna? Under the cover is something that looks like a coax connector which I suspect may be an antenna connector. I tried fishing around with my scope but couldn't find any signal; I suspect my scope just doesn't have a high enough response. I know this forum is mainly for software but I don't know of an appropriate hardware forum.
 
Unfortunately I have no idea what handset you speak of. If we knew what device it was maybe we could help...
 
OK you must be talking about the port near the bottom right of the battery... no idea what that is but I may know who to ask....
But I can't reach him ATM. I will pm you with my findings.
If I find its an antenna port I will post here.
 
Can't find anything on this topic. :( though it is an increasingly occurring question in a few different forums for other phones... all are dead ends.
