External Enclosure for a Hard Drive

I'll go for an enclosure w/ wifi ^_^ Just Kidding but its a great alternative to wirelessly connect you Backup drive with you PC. However, I go for an enclosure just for the simplicity of having a portable copy of files.

Surprised I (and maybe everyone else :P) didn't realise that the SATA/USB3 adapter I bought only works for 2.5" drives.

Sending that back and then I guess my only other option is to buy an enclosure/adapter that needs an AC connection, probably this one http://www.ebuyer.com/351094-sumvision-apex-fx-usb-3-0-external-sata-hdd-enclosure-smvsn-apex as it's pretty cheap and fairly well rated...

Unless anyone else recommends anything else? Most other drives I've seen seem to be around

Well, you didn't actually say that you were buying it, and the general concensus of advice was to invest in an enclosure anyway. Plus, if it's the one you linked in post #18, the description clearly states that it supports both 2.5" and 3.5" drives. As it should.... SATA is a standardised interface.

would the difference between USB2 and USB 3 be big at all?

If your mainboard supports USB 3.0 then it's a false economy to restrict it with USB 2.0; the theoretical maximum throughput of 5Gbps is 10x the 480Mbps of USB 2.0.

Yeah fair enough ^_^

I got a different adapter from the one in post 18, I think it was a delock.

I know most were telling me to get an enclosure but I didn't want to he restricted to socket and now it's really my only option.
