External mic on desire?

I am looking to improve the sound quality when using the video camera. I found a Mic that plugs into the audio jack and is designed to give sound functionality to an ipod which has no mic. Would this be recognized on a Desire?

I suspect that it defaults to the onboard mic, although I am not sure. You might just try plugging any mic in (if you have a pair of earbuds with a mic on i tthat would work for a test) and record something while talking directly into that mic (cover up the actual phone ic as best you can). You should be able to tell from there if it is recognizing your external mic.

I dont think it would work, as the headphone port on Android phones is output only, not input.
