external speakers

Been in hospitals and places similar a few times recently and have been using the nexus to watch films with my partner it is something we will probably do a lot over the years so I was considering buying some speakers to make it a but louder as the stock ones aren't the loudest.

Does anyone know of any decent ones for plugging into the headphone socket? Cheaper the better, but obviously I can't expect great results for tuppence.lol

Thanks in advance :-)

I bought a pair for about 12 bucks they are logitech and work great for my humble needs. Got them at wally world only drawback is they need a wall socket to plug into. I would like a more "portable" pair

Plugin speakers (passive) won't get you very good sound. Best bet is a powered speaker. I use the Logitech UE bluetooth speaker and it's fantastic. Of course, it's not cheap either.

Unfortunately, your going to need a powered pair. Passive external speakers won't be much louder than the internal one (or will just sound really crappy). On the plus side, you don't need to spend a pretty penny, just something that plugs into a wall outlet (or at the very least, runs on batteries).

This is what my sister used when she had her old laptop that wasn't very loud.

Amazon.com: Logitech S120 2.0 Multimedia Speakers: Computers & Accessories

Not expensive, plugs into a standard wall outlet (no power brick!) and can still get fairly loud.

If you're looking for portability and convenience, you could look at the Jawbone Jambox. One little brick that is rechargeable and connects via Bluetooth or with wire. When I'm at home I connect with wire and when I'm away I use Bluetooth. It's small enough that it drops in a pack but the sound is pretty good...

I've been using a Jambox for about a year and a half now. I've used quite a few "cheap" portable speakers over the years, But the Jambox, even though its not exactly inexpensive, is the best investment I've ever made as far as sound quality. It sounds like a full size stereo. I use it everyday. It fits right in the drink pouch of my backpack or even in a jacket pocket so I can take it everywhere I go.
