Extra Batteries?

Hi everyone,

So I noticed Hyperion is selling 2 extra batteries and a charger through Amazon for the Galaxy s2 AT&T version ($25). Coming from an iphone, I've never had the option to get extra batteries (For a smartphone) so I'm wondering, is it worth it?

My iphone is almost 30 months old and the battery still lasts just fine - so is the galaxy s2's battery so much worse that I'd need extras? Or would I only want them for travel/times when I couldn't charge?

Thanks!

YES!!! but ***NOT*** because the Galaxy SII requires it, but rather only in case of emergency! I've had my iphone 3G since it first came out and NEVER switch to the 3GS, 4 or 4S. I've cringed, begged, pleaded for my friends, colleagues and family when my iphone's power died on me after several rounds of Field Runners, surfing the net, etc... From day one with the iphone years ago, I *HATED* the fact that the phone did not have removable battery nor external memory...

So when I got the SGII, the 1st thing I did was buy EXTRA batteries and SD (micro). You have choice of standard battery (SLIM body style - STOCK/DEFAULT from AT&T) or EXTENDED battery makes it FAT like the Skyrocket... :)

I LOVE the extra battery and I always carry it around when I go to shows/events like NYC recent ComicCon... Between work and home 9 ~5 really not needed... but when you know in advance like traveling or shows, it's a godsend...

Good Luck!

Although I am not having any battery issues (gets me thru the day with juice to spare) I just ordered this from Amazon today for $25.00, as the price was too good to pass up and the reviews were very positive.
I'll post back in a week or so on my experience ;)

All the reviews sound awesome!!

It is definitely a good idea to keep a spare battery, especially if it's not a big deal to tote it (like for a woman to just toss it into her purse). Or for a guy, maybe just keep it in your car? I never need it for normal days, but there are times when I am texting and web browsing heavily and am unable to stop and charge.

I also like to have them when on a plane or road trip, if you are going to listen to music or play games for long lengths of time.

I ordered this same deal -- 2 batteries and the charger -- myself and am very pleased. My wife and I have new S2s and this is perfect for both of us.

I usually don't need a spare, either, but there are times when I'm traveling and the day gets very long and it's nice to know I've got a spare in my briefcase.

I really didn't see any difference in the Hyperion's battery life over stock but I'm not too sure that I would notice the 8.5% mAh increase (stock 1650mAh vs. Hyperion 1800mAh) in daily usage.

I had (2) extra batteries with my Captivate. It was wonderful. ALWAYS had a fully charged battery in my pocket, never even plugged my phone in, unless it was to sideload or flash. My wife has the phone now and she feels the same way (though, she won't let me flash her phone anymore. she's uptight, that way).

The Hyperion's are selling for $20 now.

On an another note, I purchased a new OEM 1650 mAh Samsung battery and Samsung charger combo for $39.95 on ebay

Both Hyperion and Ankar (I believe they're the same, just different labeling) deliver as good, if not better, than stock. The Ankar's my wife uses for the Captivate give her, 6-7 hours more life, on average. Even brand new, the OEM would only give me just over 24 hours with what I consider moderate usage. The Ankar's, after 4 full refresh cycles, were easily delivering 1d 6-7h...

From most reviews I've read... others experience the same.

im a bit skeptical about aftermarket batteries. i bought 2 different batteries from ebay for my original galaxy s, and the quality was... nonexistant. it loses a significant amount of the charge, pretty much instantaneously.

Ok did a quick browse of these brands on Amazon and am having two concerns...

With the Hyperion it states this ****The Smart LED shows charging status. Battery is designed specifically for Samsung Galaxy SII i9100, and will also work fully in the Samsung Galaxy SII i7777 ( US model from ATT ) BUT currently will not charge while in the phone and will need to be charged in the wall charger provided with the item currently.

And as far as the Ankar brands I struggled to spot one that claimed compatible with the i777 At&t variant :(

Can anyone provide their experience and or better info? Taking the battery cover off to regularly replace the battery for charging purposes would be a bit of a deterrent since I plan on using a snap on hard case on my SG2 but would love to have spare batteries or a higher capacity battery that fits without changing the stock battery cover.

Also does anyone know how the NFC works on these? I had read that it was built into the stock battery but since I am coming from an iphone4 I may have missed some vital info while cramming :)

Where do you get this? In fact, 2-3 of the reviewers even noted, the original batteries they received were for the international model and Hyperion promptly replaced them, with the correct ones.

The link is for the AT&T Samsung Galaxy S II

Thanks for the link, I was typing in "hyperion i777" into the amazon search, so apparently kept pulling up only the ones claiming not to work with the AT&T model.

Yeah, blame the sellers for that. There was the confusion in the beginning as to the batteries. The sellers looked at it and said, "Hey this will work in both versions of the phone. Looks the same!"

So now, every single one of them put in their title description (NOT for AT&T i777). I did the same thing when I went to purchase the batteries. Instead of following my own link, I went to Amazon and searched. Was buried like 4 pages deep.

OK. First report. Got my new Hyperion batteries today. Went ahead and swapped out the OEM, which still had a significant charge, for the purpose of draining the Hyperion (they typically come with a short flash charge). Started at 37%, I've made 4 phone calls, 1 of which was almost 40 minutes long. Battery is now at 22%, so drain seems about right.

I'm going to try to get both of them through a full drain/charge cycle, today. Packing is sparse, yet effective. I will add some pics for the package contents. The charger, is not universal. It says its specifically for the Samsung GT-i900/Galay S II (yes, it is spelled that way). It is however, a nicer charger than the one I got with my Captivate spares.

I just wish Samsung, hadn't skimped on the casing materials. The Captivate was built like a tank, in comparison. Hopefully the back cover will hold up. I do take care to remove gently from the top and to install, gently and evenly on both sides, bottom to top.

Oh, special note. The markings on the batteries are wrong, in regards to placement of the negative lead. In the top picture, the negative should be 1 more to the right. 4 terminal leads. (+) we'll call #1... (-) would be #3.

EDIT: Forgot to add, that the +/- markings won't make a difference, unless you use a real "universal" charger, that has movable pins. The pins on the charger that comes with the Hyperions, don't move. So their placement is already correct. The charger I got with my Captivate has movable pins, so you have to take care to insure they're lined up. While they are different batteries, both the Captivate and the GSII are configured the same.

Both batteries have had a complete charge and drain cycle. Battery life still sucks, blowing through them both, in just over a day. However, the Ankar's I had with my Captivate were the same way. Once, I did 5 full charge/discharge cycles on them, they would give me 15-20% more battery life, than the OEM, when it was new.

Will report back, once Battery Left has calibrated to them and they've been broken in more.
