Help extremely annoying problem with my SGS4/ Android

lloydos

Lurker
Hi guys first of all I'm a new Samsung and Android user being a faithful ios user for the past 5 years. But finally made the switch. I'm loving it so far apart from this one problem. When my battery gets below 15% I get the usual notification but then my phone automatically sends my gps location to my home phone number via sms. I have searched and searched and can't find a solution.
Please help :(

Hey there and welcome lloydos!
I'm not clear on what you mean by the phone sending an sms to your home phone number with the gps location? Did I read that correctly? Sorry, sometimes I need to read things a few times ;)

Anyhoo, you say you have the SGS4....and to make sure, it's not the SGS4 mini, zoom, or active variant of the SGS4? (we have some forums for those) and its simply the Samsung Galaxy S4?

mike starts this thread on in a good way, but now that its started, have you installed any suspicious apps lately?

It's sort of a stigma that android cant get viruses, this is true, but at the same time not true.

The first step I can recommend without knowing the entire details is check which apps are running/installed and if any are suspicious, get rid of those.

hope this helps!

First of all many thanks on the replies. My handset is just the galaxy s4 uk version runing 4.2.2. To my knolegde nothing suspect installed everything from the Google play store.

I got fed up with it so went back to factory settings then started again and still happens.

To clarify, first thing that happens is I get the low battery notification, then the home phone rings, it follows "you have a text message from .... With coordinates of" and then reads them out.

Followed by a text from my carrier. Your text message has sucessfully been sent to ... so annoying as you can imagine.

I have no idea what it is, I'm sure it's something I've done just wish I knew what lol.

Many thanks

Hi

There is an app on your phone sending a text to someone's computer which is voice dialing your home phone. My guess is it must be an app from your carrier or a security app you have installed. W who else would have your home no on their server? Probably pre configured bloatware. Is your phone locked to a particular carrier ie branded?

Roger

When I first got the phone it never did this so that kinda rules out carrier. I have installed a anti virus (sophos) but have never put my home phone into it.

Glad you got it sorted there lloydos!!

I also moved your thread to the S4 forums just in case someone else with your device has the same issue and looks for it:)
