Help Extremely Loud In-Call Volume

The in-call volume on my Eris is extremely loud, to the point I can't have the phone up to my ear when on a call. The volume is all the way down, but it doesn't make a difference. Has anyone else had this problem?
 
Yep, mine is fairly loud also. I've learned to not position the ear piece directly over my ear canal -that 'quiets' the phone quite nicely.

Mine is always super loud when I call to "catch up" with my Mom & Dad; other than that, it seems to be fine for me. ;)
 
Any resolution to this problem? I am having the same thing. Volume turned down as far as it goes, and it sounds like it's on speaker phone, (which it isn't. And yes...the hearing impaired setting is off, too.)
 
Yeah it's loud even on minimum volume. Geez, anyone try with the hearing aid setting turned on?
 
Didn't try that, although I did try turning it on and then back off again. Didn't make any difference though. What you suggested is worth a try though.
 
mine would do this every once and a while, it would be loud for
one call, then normal sounding for the next call. i haven't had
this problem so far ever since i rooted (yesterday) tho. we'll see.
 
Did u try turning the volume down while actually on the call? I only ask cuz I tried turning the volume down while not actually being on a call and realized I was actually turning the ringer down.

My Dad is hard of hearing and assumes everyone else is as well and nearly blows my speaker every time I talk to him.
 
i'm still getting this issue, even after root.

what worked for a while, was i would force quit the Phone app.
then the next call would sound normal. and then the next call
would be loud, so i would have to force quit it again. but this
eventually stopped working.
 
I rebooted my phone, and then didn't have the problem for quite some time. When I noticed it again, I rebooted, and it went back to normal again.
 
It happened to me again several times today. It is really annoying when you put the phone up to your ear not expecting to have your eardrum blasted, but there it is.
 
Just thought I would post a recent observation...

Every time I use the BlueTooth, I get the loud in-call volume afterward. To get "normal" volume levels, I have to reboot the phone. Shouldn't have to, but it seems to work.
