Help extsdcard folders

Burned

Member
Hi,

Do I need to "root" the phone so I can write to the external SD card?
My card is formatted and the camera saves there, but I cant create folders on the extsdcard. I am trying to move music there and I get "creation failed" when trying to make a folder.

thx

I tried "My files", "ES File Explorer", "Astro", and "File Manager"
This has to be a permission issue. I obviously do not have write permissions to the SD card

Both of those should be able to create a folder. Can you create one via your pc if you connect your phone?

No, I cant. I get an error saying the device has either stopped responding or been disconnected. Yet I can browse the files on it.

This is a 32GB Patriot Class 10 memory card.
File System says "Generic Hierarchical"

Should I try to format this card from Windows with a FAT32 or exfat filesystem then try it?

Nah mate theyre just talkin about apps
Even when the internal sd is full, the s3 wont read apps on external sd without some hackery

As funkylogic stated the 32GB card will not support exFat. I would move your stuff to the PC and Format the card using the Phone, then put your stuff back. Hope this helps.

Is this an issue with any 32GB memory card or is it this particular kind?

Not being able create folders on the SD card

It's not an issue with the card, rather the file system it has been formatted with.

I have formatted with the phone several times. I stated that in post #1
The camera app can write to the card... so its working.
I am pretty sure this is a write permission issue.

This is whacked. I was able to create a folder thru "My files" called "yes" Then I deleted it and tried to create the same folder and it said "creation failed"
What????? I was able to create some folders, but not all the time.

I have the same problem. Its not the sd card. I took it out and was able to write to it. Put a different sd card in and NOT able to write. Up until two weeks ago it would write just fine. cant even copy files from internal sd to ext sd.

Same issue here. My sd card is just 16gb, formatted by my gs3, works fine on laptop but "creation failed" message every time I try to create a new folder on ext. Sd card. Reboot hasn't helped.
Any & all suggestions welcome. Thanks.

Anyone?
I'm thinking the card's been damaged by the recent 4.3 update - some files certainly were but I re-formatted the card with the gs3, then loaded music files from my laptop - they play ok.
