F A C E B O O K: "Why I Don't Use It Anymore"

In order to delete your account you have to delete each picture one at a time and each time Fb will ask you if your sure you want to delete the picture. You have to delete all your info 1 piece at a time. It is a pain in the ass and Fb figured out that everyone is basically lazy so only a small percentage of people will take the sometimes hours of time needed to do it.

The only reason I keep my account is to log into other websites, but Google + and twitter are becoming bigger with more websites, So I may do it. The only thing is that still more people Use Facebook and they are easier to find.

Thats somethimg else i want to avoid. Combining all of the services together. All it takes in a breach in "one" of the linked services.....just one..... :(

Its like at&t, combining ALL services in one basket. When you have a prob or dispute with one piece....its hard to separate out and remove without jumping through hoops.
(Used to be with att, if you disputed one piece and said 'not paying this piece but paying the rest of the bundle" ..you lost service to EVERYTHING till you paid up, then protest a charge later)

Facebook mouse cursor tracking research revealed | BGR

Facebook just may have gotten a leg up in its race with Google to see
which company can come up with creepier ways to collect information on
its users. The Wall Street Journal reports that Facebook is testing out
technology that would actually track the mouse cursor movements that
users make while they’re visiting the website as a way to watch more
subtle interactions than standard clicks. Facebook analytics chief Ken
Rudin tells the Journal that Facebook would like to know answers to
questions such as “Did your cursor hover over that ad… and was the
newsfeed in a viewable area?” Rudin emphasizes that no decision has been
made on whether to roll out the cursor-tracking technology although he
says that company “will probably know in a couple of months” whether
it’s worth deploying.

This is why I steadfastly refuse to 'bundle' services. I keep separate providers for satellite (DirecTV), cable Internet (Earthlink, over Time Warner's cables), landline (AT&T), and cell phone (AT&T). They're all separate and I like it that way! If my cable goes out, I still have phone and TV. If my phone goes out I still have Internet and TV. And so on. (Now, when the ELECTRICITY goes out, all bets are off!)

Approximately once a week I receive an e-mail from AT&T telling me that my "UVerse offer ends soon!" Right-o. Month after month my offer expires soon...yet the e-mails keep coming.

Really? That sucks.

When the cable companies were allowed to cold call, I had a couple of them call me Un-American since I didn't want the service unless I could get sports only. Movies don't interest me. The book is always better.
Roku carries Major League Baseball, so I bought that. We will watch games from the start of the season. Better than the junk on OTA TV excepting PBS.

I don't like to bundle services on tech stuff. Since I have an Android phone, I won't use Picasa or Blogger. I have a Flickr account and am looking for another site as I also have Yahoo mail for spam and groups. I have a windows computer, and have no windows products on it and most of the built ins turned off or ignored. I use Open or Libre Office if I have to, but since I have virtual XP, I can use Wordperfect 9. Any dvd or movie editing gets done in Ubuntu, and pictures and layouts for calendars and cards gets done with Adobe on an offline XP box. I've turned off windows security and subscribed (bought) what I want. I won't use IE, either.

I also NEVER log into any site with Google, Facebook, Twitter, etc, just their sites.

One thing i dont like about Google "Feedback" is this: when you send a comment using this option, google displays a disclaimer to "please wait while google takes a snapshot of your computer 'desktop'....or something like thst. I mean, i didnt give permission for them to do so or who knows if they are scanning files and what else while holdingbmy computer 'hostage'. All i did was sent a feedback comment. Wont be doing that anymore either.

Me too! Keepiny things itemized saves a "bundle" of headaches and unresolvable issues!

You make the 4th person make that point about picasa. I have learned that i should have not used picasa. I will open up a flicker pr photobucket account and start moving my pics out of picasa

Fire, radio, television and the Internet (in aggregate) never hid permissions from me and intruded on my personal life.

But you can't blame the technology because of how people use it. It wasn't radios fault we had to listen to Michael Jackson, it was the people who (mis) used it.
Facebook can only share what data you give it.
I don't follow many people on facebook or twitter, usually companies or organizations I support. I've won a couple contests to far.

Was playing Michael Jackson on the radio misuse of that medium? Would Marconi object to it?

I dont know if FACEBOOK made him slash Michaels "glove" into the discussion or what, bit it shonuff didnt fit......and "if it doesnt fit......you must acquit!...

I agree. However...

It wasn't radios fault we had to listen to Michael Jackson
Well, yes, it was! :) Radio stations pick and choose what they want to play. In turn, listeners pick and choose which radio stations they want to listen to. I personally never liked Michael Jackson's music and, therefore, wasn't among those who chose to listen to stations that played his music. But I don't think those stations were doing anything wrong; his music just wasn't my cup of tea, so I didn't listen to those stations. (I preferred, and still do, classic rock.)

Facebook can only share what data you give it.
Right, but it's their covert sharing of data that troubled me, and still does. There have been volumes written about the egregious privacy offenses FB has committed, but many people really aren't aware of how bad it is. It's BAD.

Facebook was designed with bad intentions, so in this case, yes, you can blame the technology. Pretending that non FB fans are dinosaurs or luddites raging against the machine doesn't change that.

All excellent cut-thru-the-chase points, MoodyBloos! ✔✔✔✔✔✔
