Good luck with your problem.
And hi to Syria from Scotland. Stay safe :thumbsupdroid:

thanks fanky
chanchan: thanks but i told u i formatted the whole thing thjen i downloaded facebook and tried to turn on the 3g but it just didn't work..no facebook no gmail
its really wierd

It's Psiphon, very probably the Syrian govt. has sussed it and is now blocking it, just like China. So you may have to find another VPN tunnel type thing. TOR probably won't work either. Try FQ Router or Freegate, those are free, or if they don't work may have to use a paid service like Astrill.

In fact Damascus likely gets its Internet censoring technology from the Beijing govt. or Huawei. .

Really? Not doubting you bud but I think I've had roms with APN missing. Could be wrong though :thumbsupdroid:
APN isn't something that's built into a phone. If it was, swapping SIMs won't work properly since you can use internet if the new SIM carrier uses a different APN.

Although I think Mike may have hit the nail on the head. It could be a country wide censoring.

Ahhhh understood mate and yeah I think Mike's right (unfortunately)

Actually unlocked phones I've had have had multiple APN for different carriers "out the box" but idk. I think you're right mate. I know a lot of carriers send you their APN when you insert their sim :thumbsupdroid:

That's country dependent. Here most unlocked phones have no APN out of the box. Even the ones carriers sell and are locked don't have APNs mainly because they have several APNs depending on whether you're on a sister network or prepaid or postpaid. Plus here, carriers sell dual sim phones with only SIM1 unlocked. If I had the money right now I'd get an S6 (they sell the dual SIM version here) and let go of my work phone.

So what's the point in dual sim phones? One sim for international and one for local?
Nope. 2 networks, or multiple contact numbers. Saves the need for a work phone and a personal phone.

In my case, I keep my personal number from Globe Telecom. However the hospital I currently work in uses Sun Cellular as their communication service. This is important because in certain areas of the hospital, no service comes through normally. However they have signal repeaters everywhere for Sun Cellular so those places still get service.

It's less hassle than to bring two devices. Although two phones still have their benefits.

Another benefit is that you know those little MyFi devices that carriers sell? Some networks still offer unlimited data for those, but not on your phone network. There's a SIM card inside those things. Pop it out and put it in your phone, and voila, no data caps.

Sure the idea of dual SIM started here in China, to save people carrying two phones around. Carriers have regional divisions, I've got a SIM from China Mobile Xilingol, which gives me low-cost calls in the Xilingol area, but if I go to another city like Beijing, making calls can be rather expensive as well as paying for incoming calls, it's rather like roaming. So buy another SIM for the city I'm in for outgoing calls, and can still receive calls on my usual SIM and number if needed.

Mobile phone numbers do indicate what city or area they're for, and phones do display that, such as 1xx479xxxxx for Xilingol, Inner Mongolia.

Ahh sneaky :thumbsupdroid:

So why is it usually Asian or underdeveloped countries where dual sim phones are popular? (or does it just seem that way from where I'm sat?)

Sure it's because in Asian and emerging market countries, phones are usually sold unlocked and SIM free. In China most people have pre-paid no commitment plans rather than long term contracts. And the only exception to that here AFAIK is the iPhone. Apple (Foxconn) doesn't make dual SIM iPhones, most other manufacturers do, including Samsung, LG and HTC.

Bit you could almost say the same about the UK. I could walk into any town centre and buy a sim free, unbranded, unlocked phone but I'd have to try pretty hard to find a dual sim :thumbsupdroid:
Anyway it's 11:48am here (bed time) so see y'all tomorrow (or tonight or something lol)
Take care my lovelies xxxxx

I might and you might, :thumbsupdroid: but my father or sister probably wouldn't. I know my father would probably go straight to the O2 shop. He's always been with O2, and wouldn't look anywhere else.

Another thing in the UK, O2, EE, 3 Vodafone, GiffGaff, Lebara, etc. don't charge three times as much for your calls and messages, and have to pay for incoming calls and messages just because you've travelled from Glasgow to Edinburgh or Aberdeen or London, i.e. another city. Which is what Unicom, Telecom and CMCC do here.

@miketd
Speaking of Lebara, what do you know about them? I was persuaded by an Asian dude in a small phone shop to buy a Lebara sim the other day for my mums old unlockable dumb phone (shes in the US on holiday and wanted me to have a backup to keep in touch if I brick/lose my phone lol.. Shes a worrier)
I understand they do decent international prices (not to the US though unfortunately but I set my mum up with WhatsApp)
Wow WAAY off topic lol sorry OP

Yeh, I know all about Lebara. :thumbsupdroid: I've used them for the last couple of times when I've been in the UK. An MVNO on the Vodafone network.

They are about good international rates to Eastern Europe, Asia, Africa and the Caribbean primarily, Often find Asian dudes in newsagents selling Lebara SIMs....LOL. For me calling friends in China from the UK, 1p per minute, they are actually the best value and most convenient for my uses, because it's direct calls and doesn't rely on having wireless data or WiFi internet. For straight wireless data they're probably not the best value in prepaid. £12 for 2GB last year.

Well I'm not even sure if this phone has WAP lol so data isn't a worry and I'll only be using it in emergencies. Plus it takes £5 top ups so all is good.
I actually bought an o2 sim and £10 voucher for it before I realised it was locked lol. Think I should put the voucher in classifieds for a fiver?
