Facebook app changed

the facebook update KILLED my battery today.

Took the X off the dock this morning fully charged. Went to work. After a few hours I browsed facebook. Then about 2 hours later, my phone notified me there was less than 15% battery left. "WTF?!?" I said to myself. I popped open Spare Parts and BatteryLeft to check, and sure enough, Facebook had something like 4.5 hours of runtime.

It wouldn't let my phone go to sleep. I'm uninstalling this crap until it's fixed.

I normally have been getting around 12 hours of use without charging the X. Today I got 5.

Spare Parts says running 100% (unplugged ~9 hours ago), but my battery has not drained significantly today. I think this is something wrong with Spare Parts or the data that it is reporting, not the phone or the program. Could be the same thing with the "GPS issue" showing that it is running 100%. I guess I'll have to do an experiment tomorrow and see what happens.
I noticed the 100% uptime since I installed the update as well. My battery is having one of its better days though so I think you may be correct. Maybe Spare Parts is reading what the FB app is doing incorrectly...?

One thing I finally discovered about the mess Facebook had created with my contacts and just simply didn't realize is this:

Go to your contacts. At the top be sure to choose Google only (if your contacts match your Gmail) and all those from FB will be gone. Then you can just sync with current contacts under the FB option you now have and the pictures of your FB buddies you have as contacts on the phone will be there.

So easy, yet I missed that all along by having ALL CONTACTS chosen.

OMG, that's so easy. I've been wanting to do that since I got the phone. I feel like an idiot lol. Thanks!

Read the whole thread; guess I'll join the gripe:

1 - my contacts screen has ground to a snail's pace even when I show "phone only" because of all those damn hidden FB friends. Hopefully this is just because it's still syncing.
2 - the redundant Linked Profiles - 17 (!) when all I have is a phone number and a... facebook entry...probably not helping the speed much
3 - how I have to see both Facebook and nativeFacebook in the options...why are two Official apps tripping over each other?
4 - the "existing contacts only" option in the app not working, especially because the filter reverts to "all"

So yes, I think it's all very silly and would love the devs to fix this junk, especially since it worked so well on my fianc

I take it back... Battery hit 30% last night, hasn't done that in awhile. There's definitely something wrong with the app. I'm not having a problem with the contacts though. I uninstalled it for now... :(

Facebook synced all contacts from facebook when it is set to dont sync. i am done... homescreen bookmark to facebook with password remembered

WOW FCK FB...

I wiped all my contacts to resync google... rebooted. BAM INCOMMING STORM FROM FB... uninstalled and no account added and no data... Why facebook why... Anyone know any other way this could be syncing?

Open the Facebook App, Go to "Settings" -> "Sync Contacts" -> "Don't Sync".

Then go back to your Homescreen and go to "Settings" -> "Accounts". On this screen, make sure you have only ONE Facebook login and only ONE Google login.

Another thing to check: Sometimes "Backup Assistant" from Verizon conflicts with the Google Account Contacts, try turning "Backup Assistant" off if it's currently on.

Thank you for this but I have already done that. I wiped everything twice today cus facebook this morning was up to 9 linked accounts so this time. I set it to dont sync and it did anyways. I have only 1 account synced for contacts and thats my main google account.

I just wiped a third time then rebooted about to check to see if facebook mysteriously synced again. I did unsync facebook before uninstalling maybe i need to install it again, re-un-sync it and delete it.

Back up assistant was ran once... not used but opened once. It only backs up phone contacts. it will NOT backup accounts with sync to avoid conflicts. Ive dumped it and reinstalled it to make sure backup assistant has no data of mine. Its utterly useless since google already handles backing up your contacts.

Open the Facebook App, Go to "Settings" -> "Sync Contacts" -> "Don't Sync".

Then go back to your Homescreen and go to "Settings" -> "AccountBa". On this screen, make sure you have only ONE Facebook login and only ONE Google login.

the problem with the notifications really bugs me. I am surprised there isnt an application that monitors either email, like the blackberry app, and turns them into notifications.

Not sure how this is killing anyones battery it doesn't update untill you open it.. i downloaded atk to see if its running and i have never seen it on there so i dono...i know droid life is reporting the same thing i just know mine seems the same.

After reading all this, I just deleted the whole app and just created shortcut from the main site on web to my home page. I noticed it wasn't refreshing properly anyway. Will give it another go in a couple weeks.

try "Sociable". not only does it do facebook, but also facebook CHAT as well. from what i understand, its the ONLY app enabled for facebook chat, and it just plain WORKS. best facebook app i have found yet, and i have tried many across both WM6.5 and android.

edit: also just an fyi, its not an automatic sync app... though if you enable "shake to refresh" you are essentially doing the same thing as automatic sync. just leave that disabled and refresh as wanted/needed manually.

I've noticed the battery drain as well. I have battery left installed and out shows that my DX has been running 100%. When I dig a little deeper battery left shows that facebook has been ruining. This has also gotten some attention on droid-life's website as well. I was wondering why my battery was draining quicker recently, this seems to be the reason in my case.

NOPE, "Partial wake" in Spare Parts isn't 100% anymore after unplugging and running FB, but the "Running" time is at 100% now, every time I test, no matter what!!

HAHAHA so ridiculous..

Having the same type of major battery issues since installing the update. Charged my phone all evening, leave it off the charger all night. Update FB when I wake up and then when I'm sitting at work 3 hours later I notice my battery is at 30%. Crazy considering it was full 3 hours earlier! Time to mess with the settings or uninstall until this gets fixed.
