Facebook App

Is the Facebook app really that horrible for the battery?

Here's the situation. I'm in an office with little to no data connectivity, and marginal voice/txt signal. Anyway, I had previously stopped using the Facebook widget due to it's power comsumption, however I still had the app that I used.

After installing Better Battery stats, I noticed that the Facebook app was guilty of the majority of my wakelocks, far beyond what any other process was. So I decided to forego the facebook app (along with Twitter and Woot (another culprit)) and just use the bookmark widget for the mobile sites.

Long story short, my battery seems to be draining less rapidly today, though that may be a placebo effect.

Anyone else notice the FB app actin' a fool?

How much battery it uses in the background has to do with how often you have it set to sync. Personally I don't let it sync at all. If I want to check Facebook I just open the app. That way it uses zero battery unless I'm actively using it.

I don't have Facebook sync at all on my phone. With the push notifications I don't have any problem getting my updates and there is no battery drain.

That sounds good doesn't it? However, without syncs, I still had Facebook wakelocks.

Why not just use the mobile facebook site??? A simple shortcut on one of the screens and its only a click away.

Like Dubbin1 said just use the mobile site. The Facebook app is garbage.

Yep. Plus the mobile site is almost exactly like the app. The only thing I miss is the direct photo sharing, but posting via text solves that.
