Help Facebook clarification

So I was googling for an answer to this, found the page on Moto's site, but they're answer leads me to another question.

I want to receive messages from facebook, but I don't want their app on my X. Moto says (here: https://motorola-global-portal.custhelp.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/48488/~/droid-x---facebook) that I can receive them through the widgets, but I don't want those either, as I use tweetdeck for my Facebook needs. All I'm interested in is receiving the occasional message through the Blur messaging system. Can I accomplish that while ditching both the app and the widgets?

you want to do step 1. you dont need to actually have the widget on your desktop. just make sure you set it up to notify you when you have a message

(pardon the fact that I'm new to the X)
How do I set it up to send me messages? Wouldn't that happen automatically when it syncs?

Not what you're looking for, but maybe it will help anyway-- I have it set up so facebook sends me sms notifications (you can set what it sends and what it doesn't, as in wall post, picture tag, direct message, etc.)

hope that'll help

Yeah, I'm trying to take advantage of the universal inbox, and just want to make sure that it doesn't need the app to receive them. SMS doesn't really fit what I'm looking for. Thanks though.
