Help Facebook Contact pictures

Hi guys and girls,

Noob to android but loving it! my only gripe is that i have my contacts linked to their facebook accounts and so HTC sense automatically uses their display picture as their contact picture, so far so good!

But i can't seem to find a way to request an updates of these pictures if they've been changed, they seem stuck to the ones originally downloads from the FB servers. I'd only really want to do it once a week just to keep things up to date but it would be nice to be able to do it!

any help would be appreciated!
 
I have noticed that mine do change but I don't know if they're automatic or the frequency. I have a friend who changed his yesterday so I've been waiting to see how long it takes.
 
I believe facebook sync does it for you (there is a thread on here about it somewhere) I have downloaded it but havent had the time to set it up yet, will let you know how well it works as this annoys me too a little!
 
For me it happens, with some delay.
The other day I was testing out some things, took a picture of a friend and uploaded it to facebook, and she then proceeded to make it her profile picture.
Looking just after, it hadn't changed, but next time I was looking at her picture it had. It might have been minutes, or it might have been hours, I'm not sure.
 
Same here, friend changed it two days ago but it hasn't updated. Tried removing the fb link and replacing it but it's the same.

It doesn't have great reviews unfortunately. Let us know how you get on though.
 
This is one of the most visible mistakes on the HTC Desire ... when I'm showing the phone to friends, they see the "people" screen of faces and are impressed until they see it's mistakenly showing their *old* profile photo, and they always ask about it.
 
I update mine by going to People, then selecting the world icon (Online Directory) from the bottom, then select Facebook, finally hit the menu button and press refresh. I believe it also updates the statuses too.

My contacts' Facebook statuses already update without that. Probably because I have Facebook set to a 4 hour sync. But I followed the steps you suggested, and none of the old facebook pictures changed.

Odd as I have just done mine and watched many of them change.

:confused: dagnabit!!

I'm guessing the difference between us is that I have Facebook auto update on, whereas you have it off, but also that your Facebook update isn't broken!

Perhaps you've touched some setting somewhere that the rest of us haven't noticed ... :)

Oh ... also I have to say ... when I hit "People > World > Facebook" it shows me the list of all my Facebook friends with the correct photos ... but those photos aren't used for my phone contact lists, despite everyone being set to use their Facebook photos.
 
Well all of the sudden my contact photos seem to be working ok. One of my FB friends changed his photo this evening, I've been into my messages and his new photo is there!

My pics wont update whatever i try, when i go into people and select online directories>facebook>refresh, the new profile pics are there, but on the contact card the old pictures remain. Un-linking and re-linking does not work either.
 
The only way i fixed this is to go into Settings, accounts and sync, then remove facebook for HTC Sense. Then re-add it. Photos updated then.
Sucks though.

How odd, still isn't working for me, and many of my friends have updated their pictures - even I have myself, weeks ago.

So ... am I right in thinking if I want to complain to the people who are responsible, it's HTC (creators of HTC Sense, and the People app) rather than Google Android or anything else?
 
I contacted HTC and their inadequate response was to tell me to unlink the phone from my Facebook account in the "sync accounts", wait a while and then relink to Facebook.
That should refresh the pictures. (and I suspect require me to relink lots of contacts).

I told them I'd expected an automatic solution, so I'll see what they come back with.

I tried this also but it has not updated the contact pics in my favourites :confused:

Its bizarre because one of my contacts does update automatically if they change their FB profile pic. The rest dont, I've been through the contact details/links and all appear to be setup the same!

Its not a major hassle just would be nice if it consistently worked for all contacts!

Despite the FB update schedule set to sync every hour - this clearly does not happen as many people changes are at least 12-24 hours behind :mad:
 
That same contact changed his photo again on the same day and I checked straight away and the contact photo hadn't changed. this evening I noticed that it's add treated. I'm not doing anything to get it to work by the way. *shrug*
 
I found a way to manually force the pic to update. Go under people then click on the person who's picture is incorrect (or hasn't updated) go under edit and then click on the picture box in the top left hand corner. The window that comes up gives you the option of "camera, facebook, photos, etc" choose fb and it updates the pic.
