Facebook friend photos not showing?

Linked phone to my facebook account and have merged all my contacts but the one thing I'm noticing is my facebook friends' photos are not showing in either incoming caller ID or Hangouts SMS. Anyone have this issue and found a solution? It seems to me that the only remedy is going to be to go into each friend's photos, save one, and then apply it to the contact. But that seems way too cumbersome to be the only way.

I'm curious myself about this, I just installed the Facebook app and selected to sync with friends in my contact list. I expected to see their pictures in contacts and messaging but nothing.
 
This did it for me..
Open contacts
Press the menu icon top right, select manage contacts
Select join contacts
Press the menu icon top right, select join condition setting
Pick what you want to match, then join all.
Pictures appear!

Did not work for the application I'm looking for. Photos appear in the contacts menu but do not in my hangouts main page with all my different conversations.
 
Hangouts has a design flaw where contact pictures come and go whenever they feel like it, so don't think ubersync isn't working. It is a Google issue lol
