Root Facebook Home On A Prevail?

VoltronMaximus

I am curious if this can happen. I looked around and got the apk (Im pretty sure its free in the Play Store so no warez here:D ). I also found some instructions that said if you changed the build.prop in /system, 3 lines (the ro.product lines for model, name, and device)to GT-I9300 (a GS3), saved, rebooted, then install apk it would work. Well when I went to install the apk, I got a prompt that it couldnt parse package, or something like that. Any ideas if there is a method to get it working on the Prevail? I know it may run kinda clunky even if it does work, but Id still like to check it out if possible.

It may require ICS or better. You could always flash cm9 and try it, if it installs then that's your problem :)

Dunno, it claims to be incompatible with all my devices on Play's website.
My other device is a Galaxy Note 10.1 running Jellybean. It should be plenty capable of running anything

Yea, I just checked too, my nexus7 says incompatible as well

Its only six phones right now; 3 HTC Ones, and Samsung Note 2, and the S3 and S4. I tried installing it on a Sony tablet and a Nexus 7, and it had a message saying its incompatible with device. So obviously it must do a check on what device youre on, right? So wouldnt it be possible to trick the app into to thinking its a different device? The method I put in the OP seemed logical so I thought it would work?

I don't know who you're asking but I haven't Kouma. Honestly, i just wanted to see if it would work.

Fairly open to anyone who wanted to see if there was something specific noted in the log as to why it does not install.

I guess it would be safe to assume that if I forget to name a subject, it's either for the previous poster (or the poster before that, in the case someone else posts at the same time as me :)), or the OP. Whichever context makes most sense

If it has to be a ICS or higher rom, I'll probably check it out with the Nexus 7. Maybe the APK was a bit goofy. Ill try the XDA modded one.

Lol. I didn't even try running it. I look for it on the market with both my Marquee and Transformer but it wasn't showing as available. I'm almost positive they've got a hacked version over at XDA though. I may decide to give that one a try just to see what all the hype is about. Probably won't end up running it though. The Facebook app does the trick for me.

Based on what I saw on the Play website, it looks like it's just a launcher replacement with some facebook themed widgets. And it probably contains facebook analytics so they can sell information on what apps you use to advertising companies

Yup' that's pretty much it

and probably what numbers you call, what music you listen to, etc.

yeah, just what people want, an automatic facebook update:

John Doe called 5 people today: <list of contacts called>

John Doe listened to: Nickleback, Justin Bieber...

John Doe turned 48 today.

I just installed this on my Warp Sequent and uninstalled it 5 minutes later. I don't know why anyone would want to use this more than ICS or Jellybean anyway.

Im sorry for ever posting this topic. Even on the Nexus 7, it was a ram whore. And for what? They actually put together an ad campaign for this? Un-freakin-believable.

Im hoping one of the major home replacement apps or Facebook/Twitter apps see the potential with what they were hoping to achieve. Think about a launcher that has the deep custom settings like ADW EX, with a single widget-style app that controls all SMS, Facebook and Twitter updates, and possibly tie in a replacement dialer. It sounds like a lot, but these things all exist in one form or another already.

PS - If this already exists, let me know:rolleyes:

Have you tried Sweeter Home?
It's surprisingly customizable, but a little more of a pita to set up. Think uccw as a launcher

Yup. LV showed me the Sweeter Home launcher almost a year ago. It's not bad at all but I still stick with my old faithful ADW EX. :D
