Here is an article from Zdnet about testing Facetime on the Apple Iphone4 but using the Evo as the hotspot. It gave props where props were due to Evo as well as sprint.

Wasnt much of an acknowledgment but it goes to show how much better Sprint and the Evo are over them.

"As you can see from the videos below (shot with an iPhone 3GS), the quality of the calls was spot on. In one case the receiver was at an Apple Store, and in the other case the user was at home on his WiFi.

haha i remember the day i decided i was going to get an evo. i then spent 10 days calling every store at 10 am within an hour drive of my house. gl man :)

I hate Fring.. it's ugly, slow and the call quality is subpar.

At the very least, we need a native Skype client on Android, like they have in iPhone land.. But we won't see it until Verizon/Skype exclusivity deal expires.

Concur but right now its all we got to video chat to a non-Evo. Qik looks interesting (now that it supposedly works) but I dont know anyone else with an Evo I would want to chat with.

I use Fring as my Skype client - Skype video calls are crystal clear and rival the outgoing quality of my MacBook Pro - and often surpasses it.

I know about dozen and a half guys using Fring on their iPhones - it's where I got the idea to use it on my EVO.

I use almost daily, several times a day, with video calls lasting up to 30 minutes.

And - there is no Verizon/Skype exclusivity deal - that's marketing fluff. Skype's been on other cell phones either a for-pay client or a free Skype client for quite some time.

All Fring is doing is what the mystical Skype client would do - make system calls to route audio/video to the Skype cloud, using Skype protocols.

Quality is great, wifi or 3G.

That said - the interface isn't as slick as Skypes - no audio conference nor group chat initiation.

I call no one a liar when it comes to personal experiences, so I'm saying that our mileage varies.

But with Qik to Qik, it's all push to talk - probably due to poor echo suppression.

Either way - that's just lame. Unless you're saying that the Qik update removes that - frankly, I just gave up following it.

Using Fring/Skype - yes, at least for the older phones.

I've no idea how well the iPhone 4 will be supported by either Fring or Skype's own client, yet.

When outside FringVille, it's just a multi-protocol client, like the many others you can find for Android or your desktop.

This implementation just happens to support Skype audio and video and our front facing camera.
 
I've been using Fring. I'll try Qik tonight & see what all the hype is about...maybe I'll like it more.

Update does not remove it. Echo still sucks. So does the App in general. Very disappointed.

We need a native facetime client for android. That thing is slick.
 
Fring is way better than qik. The lag with Qik was unbearable, and then to have push to talk, just made it worse. At least with fring all of my skype contacts show up and it works just as I would expect any skype to skype call to work.
