Help Factory Data Reset won't work

Lost phone ringer as a result of the Smart Profile Face Down bug. Only solution is to do a factory reset, but that doesn't work.

Settings/Privacy/Factory Data Reset - press Reset Phone button. The button changes color when I press it, but nothing else happens. I've tried long press, very long press, even longer press, multiple short presses, but no joy. Any suggestions?

Talked to Verizon Wireless support and they couldn't figure it out. They talked me through an alternate procedure where I had to press multiple buttons, etc.

The pain of having to reconfigure the phone is only offset by the fact that, in the background, the Red Sox are clobering TEE (at least after 8).
