Root Factory Reset Going Around in Circles

I am having issues after attempting a factory reset.

I downloaded ROM manager and used it to flash a new RUU to the system (hence removing my old Orange rubbish), I used the following ROM:

"Official_Stock_Sense-Gingerbread_v1.2__GB-2.3.3_A2SD+"

This process was successful, I also decided to do a hard reset via settings.

Once the phone restarted it went through the set up process and froze after the location settings, displaying the following message.

"Activity Setup (in application Setup) is not responding"

This then sends you round an infinite loop of restart and failure of the set up process.

I have tried to do a reset via the buttons but that doesn't work because either CWM doesn't let it or my volume buttons are a bit old and flaky.

How do I get around this start up problem because as far as I can see the phone is functional it is connecting to mobile networks and wireless I just can't get to the operating system because it is failing on the set up process.

Hi nucleardan, and welcome to AF :)

I don't know that ROM (an RUU is something different), so advice will be generic, I'm afraid. But here goes.

Firstly, get rid of ROM Manager! There is a sticky thread in this forum about the problems it has caused other people. You can do everything it does using the recovery that was installed when you rooted, and do it better. What recovery do you have by the way?

A factory reset should cause no problem - it just wipes user data. So that's kinda odd. But you should do the reset before flashing the ROM, no need later (I read your post as saying you used the phone's settings menu to reset after flashing).

What I'd suggest is booting into recovery (reboot while pressing volume down key, select recovery from hboot menu), do a factory reset from there, then reinstall the ROM. That way you get a clean start with the ROM. If problems remain, try a different ROM.

Good luck
