Help Factory Reset - Google account has no apps!

grhm

Lurker
Hi everyone,

After downloading an app which led to the phone freezing and not able to restart any further than the htc logo then a black screen, I performed a factory reset.

The phone is now fine but upon relinking it with my google account it seems to have lost any recognition of the paid and free apps I had previously downloaded! Everything I reads suggest they should be in my apps

I would greatly appreciate your help!

Was your phone synced to your Google account before the reset? This is key to retrieving apps you've paid for. Your Google account keeps track of the apps you've paid for, so on a factory reset you can reinstall the purchased apps as it knows you've bought them. You can find more details about the apps you've downloaded and can reinstall in Android Market (on the web) or the Market app (which you'll need to reinstall on your phone). In Android Market (on the web) look in 'My Market Account' for more details.

Are the purchases shown on your Google Checkout account? Perhaps, if it's a Google server issue, the record there can be used to prove to Google you've paid for the apps.

An alternative, before resetting the phone, is to transfer purchased apps to an SD card.

The google account was set up when I got the phone and I believe was set to continue syncing. There are none of the apps installed previously on the market on the app or online.

Could it be that the account hadn't synced and therefore wasn't up to date with the downloads or do you know if it would have been updated on purchase?

Thank you for your reply

As long as your phone is synced to your Google account, then it should update when you purchase an app.

Have you tried logging out of your Google account, including Talk or any other Google related account, then logging back in to see if that resets things?

Yeah, I don't have any google services other than for d/ling apps and have tried removing the account and a second factory reset! :(

i've contacted google about it but i don't think it looks hopeful!

grhm, a factory reset (unless you've backed up stuff) will wipe all your apps you have downloaded. However, as long as you are logged into the original Google account you set the phone up with, you should be able to download all your apps again at no cost. The apps should be registered to your Google account, so you can download them again free. This is how I have the same apps installed on 3 separate Android devices. The license for the app is per account and not per device IIRC.

Also for future use, install appbrain, as this will sync all your apps, and if you move to another phone, or factory reset, it will push install all your apps automatically.
