Help Factory reset not complete...Help!

I have an unrooted HTC Sensation 4G from T-Mobile. I've done several factory resets, from bootloader, settings, and functions, and each time I do, I still don't get a complete reset. Right before it shuts off, I catch a glimpse of a popup in the middle of the screen that says something about "reverse action...." And I don't get to read it all. I believe there is some type of spy program that is not letting me do a factory reset. Also, after the phone turns back on, before I enter any personal data, it already has my gmail programmed and my contacts loaded. I've contacted HTC, and they can do a full system wipe for $85, and I have to be without my phone for the duration. Is there any way that I can do this myself? Someone please help!
 
yeah you can do this yourself. couple of questions first though: 1) since you can get into the bootloader and factory reset, im assuming that you can also load the phone into fastboot yes? 2) is the phone fully functional after it boots up? Depending on your answer im pretty sure i can walk you through the steps to get this working correctly. ALso, are you opposed to rooting/s-off/unlock?
 
I can fastboot as long as the fastboot box is checked in Settings>Power, then shut the phone off and back on, and it works fine. As long as I have fastboot checked, I can't get into the bootloader screen. I am not opposed to S-off or rooting, however, I drive a truck cross-country, and I don't have a lot of downtime with internet connectivity, and seeing as this is my only phone, I definitely don't want to mess it up. I did try once before, but could never find all the files and codes that I needed in time, so I gave up.
 
Or if you want I'll root and unlock the phone for you. all you need is a USB cord, computer connected to the internet, and some software changes to your pc and I can do it from here at home. In theory the way we can do this would be through your giving me remote access to your pc, you can sit and watch me the entire time to ensure that im not hacking/stealing.tampering with any of your files or whatnot. (i would never btw.) hit me up if thats something you wanna do.
 
I would recommend the dev unlock as a last resort since you also lose your warranty with it, have you updated to ics?
 
just occurred to me... when you tried unlocking/rooting before how far did you get? Perhaps something got altered thats afftecting his system from factory resetting. if this is the case rooting/unlocking his phone would be the fastest way to help
 
Actually, as far as I've ever gotten was to try to download some of the files that I needed. Oh, and the keygen that I was sent to did not support my phone. Getting ready to unlock from HTC website now. After that, not sure what files I need other than the PG58IMG zip file and I know there was something else, but I'll get there. If you know a fast way that is dummy-proof, I'd appreciate it. LOL As I said before, my wifi connection times are very limited, depending on what our load assignments are.
 
the htc process will go smoothly for unlocking the bootloader, after that is when you need to root the device. in order to accomplish this you'll need to download the android sdk to install the adb tools on your computer. Feel free to hit me up with any help you need (i think i have a pg58img.zip saved in my toolbox.) i'll be online all day today and am more that willing to assist.
 
Okay, well that part is done. It was actually pretty painless, except for the part where I couldn't figure out where my computer was installing the files to. I have the SDK from using the unlocker, but didn't get all of the files installed, mainly just the ones that were needed for that process. Now..... what next? :-)
 
oh, and once I get all the files downloaded, is it necessary that I keep an internet connection, or should I just wait until I have a lot of time to do anything else?
 
following the guides instructions the adb should have been installed to something like c:/android/platform-tools/ correct? (thats how mine is setup and i followed the guide to a T). Alpharev Unrevoked method will help you in getting s-off heres a link to the download and tools for that aspect ----> Revolutionary. This will get you s-off. You will need to get your hboot, serial # etc. for your beta key. Once you have s-off you need to get recovery installed. (this is the PG58img.zip you spoke of earlier.) Lemme know when you get to this point and i can file-share you the one ive got so you don't have to hunt for it.

Once you've got everything downloaded and you are s-off, you can be disconnected from the internet for the rest of the process. Just make sure you have everything you need: custom recovery, superuser, and a rooted/unlocked stock rom. You will also need to superCID as well through the fastboot/adb stuff you downloaded.
 
lol its a bit of a process - most of the work is downloading everything you need, after that its a breeze. You've unlocked the bootloader via htc dev now in order to get and maintain root you need to be able to flash a custom recovery which requires you to be eng s-off. If you get lost or want to save some instructions for viewing offline : this is the guide i followed to get everything done ---> [Guide] to Installing S-off, Unlocking, ClockWork, Root, SuperCID & S-on - xda-developers follow it exactly, one of the best guides ive seen TBH. With full read/write access to the phone you can now flash/erase/rewrite system images.. recovery... etc.
 
That's the same guide that I was using, but I couldn't even get through the S-off process because my HBOOT version wasn't listed. Also, how do I find a ROM if I don't want the ICS that is currently running on my device, or does that actually stay on the device and the ROM runs in a different partition?
 
which version of android would you want on there? after this is done you can put pretty much whatever you want onto your phone.
